He should be brought up to the Marlies next season and then the NHL the season after. Let him move up one step at a time.

Two questions:

1) What does Anton Stralman have to do with Morgan Rielly, other than the fact both were Leaf draft picks?

2) Why does a certain portion of this fan base frown on any optimism whatsoever?

Heck of a nice goal by Rielly. He continues to show why he was so highly regarded going into last year's draft.

Agree with the poster on page 1, that defence is awful, but that's an extremely nice goal nonetheless

Except skinner never really was considered for top spot, and he never missed any games. He fell due to perceived lack of size.

Agreement between NHL and CHL requires Morgan to either play in the NHL or CHL next year. He won't be elligible for the AHL until 2013-2014.

In that sense.. yes

I followed the draft closely and never once heard of Rielly being considered in the top spot. Now obviously people have proof that he was. Just not to my knowledge. more or less the fact that when the draft was on in 2010, i was screaming for someone to take Skinner earlier and surely enough he immediately cracked the league and took over. There was never a transition period, just immediately blended in. I see that in Rielly.

I screwed up, completely forgot that this was his 3rd year in the CHL and that he would be age eligible next year. I apologize.

However, if he keeps up his current pace/development then I can easily see him making the big squad next year.

How old will he even be when the NHL finally resumes play?

I think I found a better comparison.

The goal is sick. It's like he's saying "Don't mind me other team, just passing through so I can get a game winner."

so what? he recognized an opportunity and seized it. you'd prefer him to stop up, wait for the D to get into position first, and then make his move? it was his speed through the neutral zone that caught the D off guard. the majority of players wouldn't have found themselves in that situation because their skating is not nearly as good.

That's a real nice move he puts on the right Dman to make the split, froze him hard for just a split second, gone.

It was sensationalized a bit too much but it was a nice little goal. He caught the two D-men napping.

Yeah, but how often do you see a Defense men go on a solo mission and then finish it off with a back-hand upstairs?

Rielly's skating ability is just remarkable; he always seems to be the fastest player on the ice. We'll have an incredibly mobile back-end down the line with him and Gardiner.

comparing rielly and gardiner's skating is hard because their strengths are different.

rielly is more explosive and definitely quicker in a straight line, whereas gardiner's strength is in his side-to-side movement and mobility.

let's just say im glad we have both.

1) As a fanbase we tend to get too excited, too quick about players, and then when they don't meet our expectations instantly, we get down on them. Stralman was going to be a star, made Kaberle expendable etc.

2) Rielly looks VERY GOOD, and I hope this translates to the NHL. However, guarded optimism, instead of unbridled man loving hysteria is recommended. Remember, he's just a kid, playing in a kids league. Let's see how this translates. By the looks of it, from the what is your job thread, I'm quite a bit older than most, and I've been there, seen that many times over. Call it Cautiously optimistic.

A nice/highlight goal is usually because of awful defense. If the defense wasn't awful, it wouldn't have been a goal probably.

Seems like a case of MoRiles just being that much better than the competition at this level.

Not taking anything away from the goal, that is. Also, merged in to Morgan Rielly discussion thread.

The future of our D is looking pretty good. Too bad Kadri and Colborne aren't nearly of the same calibre as Rielly and Gardiner.
