If tonight is the first time you've had the opportunity to see Rielly in-game, you're in for a treat. Hopefully there's a lot of power plays for the WHL tonight so you can see him really shine.
I've seen Morgan Rielly play only a handful of times, but I've got to say that I'm very impressed.
Similar to what Leaf fans see in Gardiner, Rielly has amazing composure with the puck and really lets the play develop because of him. He's forced the hands of the Russians in this game a couple times and made a couple of smart decisions. Really hope that the Leafs spend time to develop his defensive play, but an unique style of player that you could oversee that part of his game.

His defensive play is more than fine....watch him more and you will see!
Very impressive showing so far tonight. Every time he touches the puck, he seems to make very good decisions. His movement is pretty good without the puck, too, getting into the open lanes a lot.
That one-time cross ice pass on the PP was just ridiculous.
When Burke stated that he believes he got the best player in the draft .....does anyone still believe he was just blowing hot air as usual?
I stated long before the draft that he was at worse the 2nd best player....the best D man is a given.
Really hard to determine who will be the best player in the draft because you are comparing apples to oranges. You take a very dynamic offensive player that has unreal vision and the ability to create plays and compare that to a defenceman that is purely offense with unreal wheels and vision.
If you are talking about defencemen in the draft, that's another preference point. Do you want the shutdown Pronger type (Reinhart), the overall defender like Niedermayer (Murray), or the offensive stud like a Paul Coffey (Rielly). Now, I don't want to get ripped on here, so I must state that these are just examples of the types of the best players of all time.
If you were ever able to see Paul Coffey skate, it reminds me a lot of Rielly.
I noticed that Rielly didn't get a lot of icetime in the first half of the first, and the Dub had Murray and Pulock on the first PP unit. After the 10 minute mark it seemed Rielly was out there every other shift and on the #1 PP unit with Pulock. He's legitimately SO good.

Can't really agree to that. Either he's in good position and just getting out muscled down low or he's just taking poor angles.
More importantly, watch how far he backs into his net when opposing players are coming at him. Essentially, he has to step up and take the man or else he screens the goalie and gives up too much time and space.
