Second that. I can vividly remember Gardiner and Schenn unsuccessfully killing penalties, getting pinned in own zone consistently.

I'm pretty sure he was 3rd in PK time on our team last season... Haha. He was good. Especially for a rookie offensive D but he made some errors at times. He was nowhere near awful.

He didn't play that bad..besides, he played as good as any rookie D in the league played last year.

Schenn and Komisarek were absolute PYLONS last year. They reminded me of a slightly better version of Lebda out there.

That is really the only plus side of a lockout. Our prospects continue to develop, we see Komisarek for one less year, say bye bye to Connolly and Lombardi and possibly MacArthur if Kadri, Colborne etc play good enough to take that spot.

That statement is so generalized. You are saying we got consistently pinned in our own end because of ONLY Gardiner. That 100% is due to our terrible forwards not being able to get the puck out. Its not like 1 player is going to chase all 5 guys in our own end and magically get it out.

Wrong interpretation. At the very least, I had named 2 players in my post. I won't even bother explaining anything beyond that.

Biggest reason for this is that our so-called "stay at home D-men" were not utilized properly. Their foot speed isn't the greatest, which got them in a lot of trouble if they got caught out of position (happened a lot w/ Wilson). Our more mobile defensemen were able to recover a lot better from being out of position.

Me getting lawyered wouldn't change the fact that he has many a miles to go and improve defensively. Would it?

Definitely has room to improve defensively, who doesn't? But is he "bad" defensively? imo, No.

Rielly covering Pulock's behind towards the end there. Both of them were probably out of gas by then

Jake Gardiner had the second worst Corsi Rel QoC and the highest O-zone start% last year. He overwhelmingly played against teams' 3rd and 4th lines. He wasn't good defensively; he was playing against scrubs and getting minutes so soft they'd alleviate back pain.

I translated it for you: Me no Gardiner fan-boy. Me think dmen who shooty puck are bad at d. Kaumisark is bettr bchause he punchinates othe peeple.

So Gardiner played against their checking lines. They play against our first line, hence our worst defensive group of forwards. Keep em comin!

On the other hand, Gardiner had the best PK stats, including On Ice Save%, Corsi On, GA On/60, and +/- On/60. Needs to improve defensively for sure, but he's not atrocious.

Clarke, Iafrate or Damphousse...All three were special.

Rielly is right up there.

If you were to redraft 2012 is Rielly #2?

He is been very good and competitive, but he needs to be aware of physical plays and control his mind a little at top speed or his play looks solid at both ends of the ice.

Don't you think his puck moving abilities work well with Phaneuf?

I think Dion needs to start thinking Defense first.

It is easier to learn Defense than it is to learn talent. imo

I think Gardiner's awesome; I just meant that I don't blindly think Gardiner is totes teh best defenseman we have. He's got a ways to go before I'd consider him top pairing material. He's doing a surprisingly good job in the top 4 right now, and I couldn't be happier.
