There's a bar owner on Chippewa trying to say that he's losing $20k a night by not having 18-20 year old kids in his bar on Thursdays. (The law allowing that on Thursdays expired recently.)

There's no way in hell they're making $20k selling Pepsi to kids once a week.

Well probably, but you'd think they wouldn't be so derpy about it in front of the Common Council.

Was it Mark Goldman? He has had a hand in any number of establishments so it's possible he was talking total for multiple establishements. Even with cover and drink costs, I can't see how someone could lose $20,000 on a single night at a single establishment. Math...

So today is my 12th anniversary with my current employer. There will not be a 13th, by my declaration.

Given the ownership turnover of Chippewa, it doesn't surprise me that one of them would say something that obviously idiotic.

Given the ownership turnover of Chippewa, it doesn't surprise me that they aren't making any money OR they're getting in trouble too much for underage drinking.

Might as well keep that money here instead of it going to Canada. It isn't like people in the 25-40 bracket really want to go clubbing on a weekly basis. If they did, a facility catering to them would have opened by now. Having underage kids on Chippewa helps bars in the rest of Buffalo by getting the older patrons to avoid Chippewa.

Old patrons have avoided Chippewa for a long time. This bad on underage kids hasn't really changed that.

There already are tons of places that cater to the 25-40 crowd. They're called normal bars.

If any of the Rochesterians around here are interested in seasonal haunted shennanigans, a guy I went to high school with here in Herkimer recently expanded his "horror attraction" empire to Rochester. He has like 3 separate ones around here that always get long lines on the weekend. I'm not a huge haunted house guy but when I went it seemed well done for that type of thing. The teenagers love it. If you look around the TV screens inside you'll see some of my drinking buddies getting (fake) tortured. Anyways, here's the link: http://www.cayoindustrial.com/rochester/

So as of tonight we will be under contract to sell our place. We may or may not have some financial hurdles to clear, but we will worry about those profusely when they arrive.

Sounds like you agree with me then. It doesn't hurt anyone to allow underage kids to do whatever they want on Chippewa, so banning them is stupid.

The people who would be pissed off by drunk frat boys and sorority girls don't go there anyway.

Um, the ban on underage patrons was put in place because the bar owners themselves requested it. They felt that allowing the kids in there was causing too many problems with fights and getting themselves nailed for serving minors.

The city didn't put this ban in place because they were bored. They were asked to do so. They got a one night a week exemption that just expired, and not a single person asked them to extend it.

The entire situation is hilariously stupid.

It's in the CD player in the van. Hasn't been out since I bought it... though I think I should probably port it over to the iPod so I can listen to it at work if I want.

Especially when you factor in that there is almost no way that one bar owner is losing $20,000 a night by not allowing the 18-20 year old crowd in one night a week. At least not legally.

They've since 'clarified' that the strip as a whole lost $20k from the one night they were still allowed to have kids in.

Still doesn't jive. There's what, 20-ish bars on the strip. You're telling me each bar was averaging $1k in non-alcohol PROFIT?

Yeah right.
