A large portion of Manhattan was flooded, including many of the road and subway tunnels, and the new WTC site.

No doubt.

It could have easily been worse...luckily people were for the most part prepared. But at least 29 reported deaths so far (and that's just the US, lot more in the Caribbean)...still sucks.

Salt water in the subways is going to suuuuuuuuuuuck. That could take quite a while to get them back to operational.

Hurricane Floyd (1999) was much larger. Something like 19 states of heavy rain: parts of OH, KY, TN, SC, and all of New England (ME, VT, NH, CT, MA, RI), all of NY, PA, NC, VA, WV, MD, Wash DC, DE, NJ. I think where I live had 18 inches rain in 24-30 hours, and that wasn't even the heaviest spot. That was a big, slow, storm which just sat there.

FYI, for you youngins, Central PA and NYS Souther Tier was signficantly impacted by Hurricane Agnes in 1972 and as a result, significant USACE flood control projects were built thereafter, which continue to provide benefit. IIRC, the Rt 219 bridge just south of Salamanca where 417 is/was (near current 17/86) washed out (among other significant damage to the east).

For Buffalo alone, perhaps. I can tell you everywhere else, it was much, much worse.

80 homes, whole blocks, burning down? Worst subway damage in the history of the NY subway? Going to take more than a week to restore power (as in I'm writing this response from a local grocery store)? 40 people dead in the US? Damage estimates around $20 BILLION? Rivers running through Manhattan and large parts of Brooklyn underwater? I woke up to the sidewalk pulled up because a huge oak tree next door came out by its roots and cars had floated down the block, thrown around like leaves.

I was in Buffalo for the October surprise, drove all around town after that storm, and that was nothing compared to this.

Rode out the storm here in Westchester County.

Luckily up on very high ground so no danger of flooding. And I'm one of the lucky ones that didn't lose power. But it was scary, and really did a number on this area. I've been hunkered down inside since Sunday basically. No work til tomorrow-everything's been shut down.

I never really got into the expansion stuff so I'm not really sure. Anyone else have any idea?

So I've been at my new job for 3.5 weeks and I've seen the owner more then I saw the owner of my previous job in 12 years. I like that fact.

Yes, there are official Star Wars novels that are considered canon that haven't been written by Lucas. Amusingly, they're better than most of what Lucas did.

Episodes IV-V-VI were good enough. Even if it can be done well...sometimes less is more.

Except that trilogy has already been destroyed by I, II and III. No harm in continuing what's already been killed.

The heavy winds never materialized here. Lots of rain, LOTS. Highest wind totals were in the high 30-40 gusts. It sounds like WNY got it worse than we did. We really dodged a bullet. No power outage, but I did hurt my back wrestling the ******* generator back into its space in the garage.

Oh yeah, it was 37 degrees when I got up this morning.

Heh, I suppose so.

It should be said that I will be a complete hypocrite and likely be among those to see the new Star Wars the weekend it comes out too, despite wishing it never happened

Great premise. Decent plot although there are some "WTF" moments.

Mostly horrible acting though, but getting better. But I'm willing to overlook it right now based on the strength of the plot.
