Sad that Randy Newman made it. He's probably most famous for this.

Nope. Apparently they were the no.2 choice though, which isn't saying much considering this is the R&R HoF... Although I would have chosen Deep Purple of Rush myself, even though I prefer Rush between the two.

Dave Marsh, one of the nominating members, once said "Kiss is not a great band, Kiss was never a great band, Kiss never will be a great band, and I have done my share to keep them off the ballot."... and that's the problem.
These "music experts" are basing their nominations on personal opinion, not even regarding what the artist has done for the industry. Kiss is arguably one of the most famous bands in the history of rock. Even those who don't know the band for their music, know the band for their appearance and for Gene's tongue. Obviously that isn't going to get them in, but adding in the fact that they've sold well over 100 million albums worldwide. Now, they haven't had any no.1 hits (Beth was their closest at no.7) and that goes against them. Lets take into account the artists that have been influenced by Kiss.. We have Lenny Kravitz, Metallica, Motley Crue, Warrant, Pearl Jam, Poison, Soundgarden, Skid Row, Slipknot, Megadeth, Bon Jovi, Weezer, and so many others.

Now myself, I am not a huge fan of Kiss, but I will never ever deny them of their legacy in rock and roll. The fact that they haven't made it into this "Rock and Roll" Hall of Fame is ridiculous.

Get your ****ing **** together Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

HOF is a complete and utter joke but at least there were 3 solid additons this year in Rush, Heart, & Albert King. Congrats to all 3.

Putting Randy Newmn in is a complete and utter joke. Love how South Park skewered him in the lowering the bar episode. The HOF certainly lowered the bar putting hiim in.

Believe it or not,the European media was putting a lot of pressure on the hall to put the band in. Over the past year all music publications used RUSH as an example of why the hall of fame is not taken seriously

Well technically they didn't put them in, they nominated them and asked people to vote for the inductees, so the general public put them in.

Rolling Stone: Did it surprise you at all?

Geddy Lee: A little bit, yeah. I was surprised we got in first time out there. It took us so long to even get on the ballot, and there were other groups like Deep Purple and Procol Harum, who I respect greatly and I assumed would be voted in as well.

Rolling Stone: It's a pretty eclectic lineup this year. Are you fans of the other inductees?

Geddy Lee: I certainly have worked with Heart and I know them well. I'm very happy for them. I have great respect for Albert King and for Randy Newman. I don't know the music of Public Enemy very well, but I know they have a very strong fan base. They've certainly played a role in the development of that style of music for sure, so it's a nice group.

To be frank, I am disappointed that Deep Purple is not included in that group. Certainly Heart and Rush would not sound the way we sound without Deep Purple.

Randy Newman isn't lowering the bar; his early work is very solid. The only argument against Hall and Oates being inducted I can imagine is that one could count them as a pop band as opposed to a rock band. But questionable genre hasn't stopped them from inducting before (*cough*Michael Jackson and Prince*cough*). Maybe in 2014...

Randy Newman's material to me has always been as boring as can be, hes a yawn inducer. Seems you like him much more than me.

I think Hall & Oates is too pop and isnt garnering much respect. They arent HOF worthy to me, just a decent act for their time period.

Now that Rush is inducted, CCR and Deep Purple are the best bands not inducted.

Edit: Just checked the list again, CCR got inducted in 1993.

Chicago, Motorhead, and Judas Priest too. Early Chicago in the Terry Kath days was Outstanding even if they became too pop in later years when Peter Cetera was more at the forefront. Terry Kath was a brilliant guitarists, his work in 25 or 6 to 4 was top notch, Jimi Hendrix said Kath was a better guitarists than him, but he was probably being overly humble, but thats still a hell of a complement. What a loss his death was (actually both Terry & Jimmy). Being from Chicago and I was a kid in their heyday where their popularity was immense, I really liked them as a Yewt.

I don't understand why they don't re-name to the Music HOF. That would stop half the *****ing about people like Madonna and Public Enemy being inducted into it

No it wouldn't.

Madonna and Public Enemy aren't music either. Just garbage.
