It's his own responsibility to get into shape that he can best perform at. If he decides that 265 is comfortable for him, then so be it. I'm not looking at his weight as a means to ridicule him. I'm more concerned for the long term implications that his weight loss methods will have on his body. There's no question that his weight fluctuates often and he puts on weight and drops weight quickly. I'm pretty sure that isn't healthy for him. He's still a human being, regardless of how his weight effects or doesn't effect his on ice performance, it's possible that his weight gain/loss methods can cause long term issues. I just hope that he doing things as healthy as possible.

does he get injured frequently (like another oft-criticized-for-his-conditioning forward Latendresse) because of his lack of conditioning? If he remains effective, and able to dress most of the season then who cares if he's a fatty?

My problems with him being a fatty are:

1. He could be an even better player if he were in better shape. Now this one is obviously just an assumption, but I feel it's reasonable.

2. The long-term effects of being overweight could rob him of a few seasons on the back-end of his career. Nagging knee and back injuries come to mind.

That said, he's not on my favorite team. I'm not his coach. He certainly doesn't owe me anything. He's a grown man and can do what he wants.

I'm trying to get adopted by bears myself. Not nearly big or fluffy enough though. Maybe if I wrap myself in a fuzzy snuggie, they'll think I'm a cub. Plus all the raw fish I can eat! good times.....

He is going to hurt himself in the long run. There is more stress on his hips, knees and ankles. More stress on his heart, too.

I'm sure it's a wide angled lens. They always make things on the edges look wider than they are.

He's 280lbs in that pic for sure.

Lmao .. how does muscle weigh more than fat?

If someone weighs 100 lbs and is all muscle and someone weighs 100 lbs and is all fat .. it's the same thing

100 pounds of bricks weighs the same as 100 pounds of feathers

True. But someone who is more muscular will be more toned looking. I work with an elderly lady. I outweigh her by 70 pounds. Fully clothed, it would be difficult to seperate our sizes. I'm slightly bigger, but not by much. However, stripped to shorts and t-shirts, it would start being a bit more apparent....I have much better musculature on my limbs.

I think its fair to say that conditioning is an issue for Byfuglien, and that he certainly could be in better shape. I have a tough time believing he would not perform better if he were in better shape, and so I think fans have every right to question and criticize him on it.
That is true of every athlete.

???

How are pounds (lbs) not a measurement of weight?

How is weight a measurement of volume?

Weight = mass x the force of gravity

100 lbs = 100 lbs

Now, the DENSITY of fat and muscle are different, so an identical volume would have different mass. And since weight is mass x gravity, their weight would be different as well.

When somebody says, "Muscle weighs more", "in relation to a corresponding volume" is implied. You're using the ambiguity of the "in relation to what?" question that's understood but unsaid to be annoyingly pedantic and add absolutely nothing to the conversation.
Thank you and well said.

To da photoshop crew can you shed some light on why such a nefarious individual, Illuminati (?), would start a smear campaign about poor Buffy?

Hey my man, I think everything knows it's photoshopped. There are two different versions of that photo. No one has to rant, we're all just goofing around.

Being massive is a part of his game. If he lost of a bunch of weight he wouldn't be nearly as effective as a player. Then again, if he dropped that fat and added a bunch of muscle he would be a monster.

Whatever, he's a good hockey player who only uses his Costco membership for their pizzas and hot dogs.
