Well he us the flames re builder, op's name mentions nothing about fairness or helping the other team. So this seems right in the alley for the flames.

Before the trade for EJ
Bouwmeester + Backlund for Statsny may have helped both teams...
But now there's no way the Avs do that
then you factor in Siemens who is a great prospect...
then you factor in Backlund coming off a poor season with a hand injury...
Not that I would be opposed to bringing JayBo in to play with EJ, but not at the price of Staz and certainly not at the price of Staz and Siemens. Flames would have to add significantly to this proposal to make it worthwhile for the Avs.
It's basically a 1b for 1b trade, I don't see either player being a true #1 guy. I personally see Backlund having 50 point potential, which is all Stastny has put up the last two seasons. Siemens could be great but more likely a big, physical, 3/4 kinda player. Sounds pretty even to me but it sounds like Colorado fans over valve Stastny almost as much as some Flames fans do with Bouwmeester.

What has Backlund done to show 50pt potential? He didn't even score at a 50pt pace in the AHL. He is now 23 and not scored more than 25pts in the NHL.
Stastny scored 53 and 57 in the last two seasons, not 50. There is a difference.
Stastny is a PROVEN 50+ point player who can score 70+ points.
Until Backlund proves something, his value is not close to Stastny.

If you take out Siemens then the trade might be decent in NHL 13, including Siemens and not even the dumb NHL 13 AI would accept this trade

Completely agree! The point is Backlund has more value than Siemens, making up for the difference between Stastny and Bouwmeester. JayBo and Backlund would be over payment for Stastny.

But Backlund doesn't have more value than Siemens.

Stastny also scored 78 points as a rookie.
Also, the Avs have no need to trade Stastny unless there's a definite improvement coming the other way, so there's no logic in saying he's over-valued by Avs fans. (and why do you want him if you're saying his and Backlund's point scoring is essentially the same?)

Not saying that Stastny's a bad player or that Backlunds totals are even close. IMO Backlund still has the potential to be a sound defensive, 50 point scorer. Avs do improve defensively, picking up a top pairing d-man and a solid, young third line center, with an upside. Flames get a young guy that can play first line center and and very good defensive prospect. We're not talking Crosby for Weber here, I see Stastny and Bouwmeester having similar value, Stastny having a bit more.
