Carl Soderberg threatens Hakan Loobs goal record in the top division

http://www.sydsvenskan.se/sport/carl...-i-elitserien/

Carl Soderberg is the king of elite division right now. Malmo guy in Linköping threaten Hakan Loobs's record of 42 goals. .

Before the season, my goal was fifteen goals. Now I have raised it to twenty, he says modestly.

When Linkoping lost on Saturday night against Modo, 3-5 Soderberg scored one goal and he had one assist. Overall, he is up on nine goals and eleven points after seven games.

Why do you score many more goals than assists?

- My team mates Par Arlbrandt and Simon Hjalmarsson's are very talented. They have given me many opportunities to score. I have a pretty good shot and I have taken some rebounds.

Swedish national team?

- I hope I get the honor again. It dosn´t matter how many goals I score. I simply believe that Par Mårts (coach) likes my way of playing.

When Hakan Loob set his record of 42 goals in season 1982-83 with Farjestad in top division it consisted of 36 rounds. Now it's 55 rounds. Loob had a strike rate of 1.16. Söderberg's average is 1.28. At the moment he is going for 70 goals.

I wish he would threaten Malmo that he wants to go to North America instead.

Exactly, either have him commit or try and move his arse(who`d take him though if he hasn`t committed in any way or shown he`s got a drive to play in NA?), if he`s as solid as some here say, no reason he shouldn`t be trying to compete for a spot over here but.....from what I`m hearing from some, maybe that`s the issue, he`d rather have it handed to him above competing for a spot.

Not sure I really blame him, probably makes nice $$, close to home, I would almost question the guy`s desire and drive when it`s been more than a few years now we`ve been bouncing around an endless thread about him and still not one sign pointing to him being ready to come over.

I don't think threatening Malmö would do anything, since he plays for Linköping now... :p

Calm down everyone. He is a big framed kid. That means he might take more time to develop (project) and means he might be a fit for the NHL.

You all need to grow up and understand a player like this does not belong in Providence no matter how much you want that. If he comes over he has to unseat Jordan Caron to avoid being banishe to the AHL where he will have no friends and family around and will make less than he does back home (a lot less.)

I'd love to see him go head to head with Caron in camp for a spot. But Caron is a guy who cracked our roster in a Cup winning year and has been told every year by management to get an apartment in Boston. He more than has the upper hand. So I jope Carl gives it a go one year. But I understand if he doesn't PC isn't going to promise him a roster spot.

Soderberg is 26 now btw. I think he is beyond prospect age. Don't ever see him coming over to North America. I'm sure he's a good pro in Sweden, no idea how his game would translate in the NHL. I'm done with the Soderberg speculation. It's obvious he doesn't want to leave when he can dominate that league, make decent bucks, and live at home doing it.

"kid"?? He`s far from a kid and he isn`t a prospect any longer, he`s been a pro for more than a while now and seems to be perfectly comfy making solid money where he is. He`s made it perfectly clear he has absolutely no ambition of actually coming to NA and earning a spot so he`ll stay where he is.

Maybe he just knows that if he were to come to NA his impact would be the same of that overhyped, over pursued mediocre product named Brunnstrom

Well, now that you mention Brunnström... Since they're both in Elitserien this year, let's do a little comparison, shall we (guldkusten would love this)?

Carl Söderberg:
- 6'3'', 220 lbs (he's gained like 15 lbs over the summer)
- GP: 7
- P (G/A): 11 (9g/2a)
- +/-: +5

Fabian Brunnström:
- 6'1'', 212 lbs
- GP: 7
- P (G/A): 2 (1g/1a)
- +/-: -1

(Sorry about the crappy "graphics" XD)

I think it's safe to say that Söderberg is quite easily the better player here. Of course I don't know how he'd do in the NHL, but since he apparently did quite well in training camp for the Blues and scored a lot of points in tournaments on smaller ice when he was younger, I wouldn't worry about it...

I'm going to be nice, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the posters who continually bring up this guy are secret Habs fans who do so just to aggravate us...

What he did when younger means little to me, I could care less. Is this a case of him being content making a good living where he is, could be, more power to him.

My feeling is I don't think he'd crack the 13 forward rotation, he knows it and isn't of th ilk to try and do it the way hundreds of others do.....by earning it.

what we need are Russian posters going into the habs forum and continually starting threads about how well Markov is doing.

Isn't he like 35 yrs old now? Who flippin cares if this guy comes here. He's not the solution to their winning games.

I love the Soderberg updates- I love the story, the loose connection to the team, the fact that he pisses off so many people here by playing over there. I love that he's becoming the player everyone hoped he would before the injury.

These are rich times to be a Bruins fan, why not embrace it all- hell, even the lockout isn't getting me too down.

Can you imagine the fire towards this guy if there were a gaping hole at center right now?

Keep the updates coming.

Its astonishing that, despite the legion of Soderberg haters here, threads about him keep popping up. Is it some wierd fascination?

Nothing weird about it.

People always want what they can't have.
