It is not official yet (no registration of contract in KHL), but sport director of Traktor said: Andrei sign with us for one year, will stay whole season, not only for lockout period. We would like to sign D Voynov for lockout period as well
Andrei Kostitsyn has no NHL contract, Habs did not sign him, so he had to sign whole season in KHL.
A completely unsurprising decision. Amazing that so many Habs fans wanted to bring him back.
I wouldn't say that I optimally wanted to bring him back... however... given that we didn't exactly replace him with ANYBODY - at all - on the UFA market, I would much rather have had him back than the void we currently have. He's a decent NHL player for a 2nd/3rd line. By contrast to Bourque (healthy or out for 4 months, either way) or a Colby Armstrong reclamation experiment... Kostitsyn is a safe and dependable option. Not a preferred option, especially given the "been there done that" factor with him and the Habs, but... still better than nothing. It was never going to happen, but still just from the fan perspective, there is nothing wrong with Kostitsyn, given a reasonable starting expectation level.
Amazing? More like completely logical. That's what you meant, right?
No, amazing. The guy was given chance after chance in Montreal, played for plenty of coaches and he ended up being in the doghouse for all of 'em, he frustrated us time and time again aside from 2007-08, disappeared in several playoff series and then pretty much showed he doesn't give a damn about winning during the playoffs in Nashville when drinking deep into the night was more important to him than getting ready for a near must win game 2 at 5 PM local time the next day.
That this guy is almost worshiped on our board is one of the strangest things I can remember.
It was time to move on. Regardless of if the hole on the roster is there or not.
Saw this coming before the Nashville trade. Much as he was a pain in the ass to watch. I thought some teams who top notch scoring might have taken a chance with Kostitsyn was their secondary option but c'est la vie.
I was hoping the Predators would re-sign him. Contrary to what I've been reading, he was pretty good in the playoffs compared to other players like his little brother who went totally invisible. He gave the team more strength on the left wing improved the powerplay.
He's got every bit of talent and size to be a top liner in the NHL in my opinion but it seems as if his head just isn't in the right spot. A lot of GM's were likely weary towards him because drama seems to follow this guy around.
He should be in the NHL though, don't get me wrong, he's an elite talent. Sucks that no one would take him on as a sort of reclamation project type deal for 1 year, but, way she goes.
Good for him. I'm one of the few Preds fans who kind of wanted AK back. Radulov, not so much, but I liked Kostitsyn's game, and both he and his brother seemed legitimately happy to be playing together again in Nashville. Best of luck, AK
