I don't think many people rate him highly?

I really like Zlatan but in big important games he keeps on not convincing

Myth. With Barca he was the only player showing up against Arsenal. Against Barca with Milan he was one of the better players again. If you're expecting him to carry teams alone, that won't happen. There is no player that can do that in later stages of CL, teams too good.

Ronaldo he's not nearly as good as Messi. Also Fabregas.

Ibra is certainly not overrated with the amount of winning he has. But yes he does rarely come through in big CL games.

But no, he's not overrated.
Pique was great two years ago. Dominant even. But yeah he's been horrible since meeting Shakira.

Fabregas I agree. EPL press here. I'll add David Silva who's sometimes rated by some people as a "great" player.

Oh and anyone calling Hummels or Ramos as better CBs than Thiago Silva should be banned from any football conversation, as today's game proves.

Hummels fits the bill pretty well I'd say.

Bryan Ruiz is another one. Samir Nasri, Ashley Young are two more. And Fabregas, yes.

I'd like to put Casillas here. He's a good goalie, but, in my opinion, he's not the best in the world like a lot seem to think. He plays on one of the best teams in the world in a league with pretty minor competition outside of maybe 2-3 other teams, and Spains NT can only be challenged by again maybe 2-3 other national teams. Which I guess makes him somewhat sheltered.

Has anyone ever actually called Hummels better than Silva? Silva's the best in the world and has been clear possessor of that title since Vidic's body started breaking.

Balotelli, especially this past summer. During Euros everyone was hyping him like mad despite the fact that he was **** besides the Semi-Final against Germany. Was never all that convincing with City, and I'm glad to see him successful at Milan, but I still have my doubts.

I think Hummels actually can be mentioned here. He's obviously pretty good, but with Dortmund having become something of a hipster-version of Barca among international football fans, I think he has been hyped too far over the past half year, especially.

Fabregas. Used to be great with Arsenal. Now he kept the reputation, but just hasn't been playing at the same level. Or atleast it seems like this to me.

Angel Di Maria is also overrated IMO. Hes good, I give you that. But he just isn't as good as people want/expect/projected him to be. Atleast at my eyes.

I think Di Maria has become overrated to the point of underrated. The amount of hate he gets is undeserved. He's inconsistent as all hell, but on his day he's fantastic. People often talk about him like he's consistently terrible.

Then Neymar is next in line.

He gets dumped on so often that some people underrated him.

I wanted to say Victor Valdes but then, I don't think he's rated highly to begin with. He makes me think of Vitor Baia: meh GK behind a great team all his career.

Also, the overrated/underrated thing is overrated: it's all about perception and way too many times, people will say a player sucks because he's overrated. But it has nothing to do with his quality, just with how people rate him.

Just because Ronaldo isn't as good as Messi doesn't mean hes overrated.

Ronaldo is an incredible player

I think he became hideously overhyped (for non-football reasons more than anything) but I disagree that there was nothing to his game aside from set pieces. At his peak he was an outstanding wide midfielder. His shooting and distribution from open play were immensely valuable to the balance of that great Man U midfield.

Fabregas has my vote.

Is it just me, or does Pique seem to have developed a little bit of a gut?

Yeah I think overhyped is more accurate than overrated

Not saying he sucks on the field or he is a bad player, but his looks combined with his marriage with a "singer" have created that hype

I don't think Hummels is too over-rated in general. He's obviously not better than Silva, who's been the best CB in the world for years now, and people that would argue that are wrong, but he's in the tier below Silva. He's really special with the ball, and has been phenomenal defensively the past two years, this year he's battled injuries and he and Santana can't go a game without some sort of miscommunication, but he's in that second tier of CBs with the likes of Kompany, Vertonghen, Dante and Chiellini.
