What odds were you checking cuz the ones I seen predicting them to win the 2013 Stanley Cup are at 40-1, Vancouver is at 10-1, Toronto and Ottawa are tied with Edmonton.
I'm going to start by saying odds are bs and i couldn't care less what the vegas betting scene thinks.

According to bodog the oilers have 25-1 odds to win the cup and 14-1 odds of winning the western conference
I like our odds to at least make the playoffs. I wonder what those odds are?

Their odds to make the playoffs should be next to nil. They've proven nothing. Tambellini and the Oilers have got to be loving this. Nothing sells tickets and merchandise like hope.
Odds aren't the same as chances to make the playoffs. Odds are placed such that the house/casino can make the most amount of money by attracting the most bets.
Obviously the optimism is high right now surrounding the Oilers and the general sense is the Oil have a much improved chance of doing much better than they have in recent seasons. 25-1 still isn't great but if the "true" odds of let's say 80-1 or 100-1 were put up there... the online sites would face too big a risk if the Oilers turned out to be a legit Cinderella team this year and ended up ridng their wave of youthful exuberance all the way to the big prize.
If you think the odds are out of whack and you are a betting person, that's a money making opportunity.
Personally I think those odds are about right. Mathematically every team has a 30-1 chance disregarding team quality. I think the Oilers are better than average this year so 25-1 seems about right.
What can I tell you? The only strides that will count this season are strides in the standings.
Ralph Krueger's system only benefits fast scoring teams. J.Shultz and Yakupov may be rookies but they're difference makers compared to last years luneup.
I'm not ruling anything out. I just want the team to make the playoffs, and that's what I'm cheering for. I think our young and highly talented core, with a couple seasons under their belt and a head start on most of the competition has the potential to surprise a lot of people.

Agreed I was simply pointing out that despite the standings last year the was serious improvement from the year previous.
I agree - too many people just look at the standings, see 29 and say there was next to no improvement.
We went from 62 to 74 points. GF went from 28th to 19th. GA went from 28th to 23rd. 5-5F/A went from 29th to 22nd. PP went from 27th to 3rd. PK from 29th to 14th.
Really, if I gave you all those rankings for the most pertinent stats, there is no way you would guess that team was 29th in a 30 team league. It's actually astonishing that with almost every metric around middle of the pack that we still finished 29th.
Despite a bunch of injuries yet again, I don't think there is any denying that there were tons of improvements last year. This year adding a healthy Hemsky and hopefully Whitney, getting Hall back, adding Yakupov and Schultz, less Khabi more Doobie, new coach....I'm drinking the Kool-aid right now. Boys will hit the ground running and be solidly in the playoffs.
I mean at the very least, for the first time in 3 seasons we will be playing meaningful hockey in January!
