Well isn't Khabibulin a UFA this summer? So we wouldn't need to buy him out. I think Horcoff and then Hemsky if he has a bad season
It's one buy-out in 2013 and one in 2014. Hemsky will be UFA in 2014. Actually, Oilers are in pretty good shape in terms of contracts. Most run out by 2014, Horcoff being the only exception.
Yea but keep in mind Luongo has a NTC - I don't see him approving a trade to the frozen tundra when his wife is a Florida woman.
Yeah, me neither. And they just signed Dubnyk whose numbers weren't that much worse on a much much worse team.
That being said, how awesome would it be to pick him up for cheap, have him come here and erect a brick wall, win the Vezina, and lead us to a Cup winning the Conn Smythe with Justin Schultz scoring the OT winner to eliminate the Canucks from the playoffs along the way.
The Canucks fans' tears would be oh so delicious and plentiful!
Sorry to interrupt your irrational Horcoff hate but:
Horcoff>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>VandeVelde, Lander
Say what you will about him but nobody can deny he got some of the toughest minutes in the entire league last year at evens. Lander and VandeVelde can't even handle 4th line minutes. And VandeVelde would probably see his FO% drop if he started taking draws against the leagues best FO men, and not the other 4th line center.
We all know Horchoffs contract is retarded but like you say, neither Lander or VV are replacing him anytime soon. Unless there is a legit replacement for Horcoff it makes no sense to buy him out. You can have all the fire power in the world but if you can't win a face off you will lose.

This supposes that a replacement would be hard to find, it would not. Expensive Horcoff is more of a problem then replacing him.
why don't we try to get one of anderson, lehner, or bishop. All look to be good goalies who need to see playing time.
Good call. I'm trying to think of available goalies.
Ben Bishop would be an OK option. I think he has one year left and is an RFA this summer. Lehner's played great in the AHL this year, they need to get him into Ottawa. Anderson has a big contract, so that's not an option.
I suppose another option is to bring up Danis and bring in an AHL vet into OKC, but I'd rather have a more proven NHL goalie or one with some NHL potential.
Now we get to see if Stauffer's prediction comes through.
I have a feeling that if Luongo was told there was a trade to Edmonton that he would actually be okay with it. He grew up as an Oiler fan, and honestly, you can never underestimate that factor to a player.
But, I doubt Vancouver trades him here. It'll be out east.

Holy over-stating importance of faceoffs. Yeah - you can most definitely win without winning faceoffs. However, as a point of fact, you can NOT win without scoring goals.
Faceoffs are a nice to have. Especially on special teams. Thing is, Horcoff has not been over 50% in 3 seasons. If all we are paying $5.5M for is his faceoffs, we are getting screwed over big time, especially considering how much better Belanger is at it for 1/3 the price.

What exactly was his prediction. It's been so long I forgot.

I believe Stauffer was referring to Bouwmeester not Luongo.
It will be interesting to see the value of first round picks with the new CBA. With 14 teams having an equal shot at first overall, I am guessing first round picks will have higher trade value. Most likely they wont be traded until after the lottery. Seeing a 17th place team trade away the first overall pick would be hilarious.

They don't have an equal shot.
It's the same as now, but just without the "only move up 4 spots" rule.
