Marathon meeting, likely 10:30pm where they are.

That's probably a great sign.

My life is pretty relaxed without the NHL right now. After watching the Barons stumble bum their way through games I could use a few more weeks here. :p

They could agree to a new deal in 10 minutes and you'd still get a month.

I'm going to be clear about this. It's fine to be optimistic (we all are hoping for the best) about things like meetings, but please refrain from stating things as fact unless you have some kind of inside information. And in that very unlikely case, contact one of the moderators before posting it first.

This is a warning. Infractions come next, and take a wild guess what comes after that.

i think that is as big a reason why there is optimism for a deal being made this week. the NHL executive and players can see that people are getting used to no NHL. 2 lost seasons in 8 years (and every reason to believe another season lost in 5-10)) is considerably worse than one lost season in league history.

they'd have to be absolutely insane to gas another season so soon. never mind the money, the intregrity of the league and sport are at stake. when lifelong fans from Trail, Saskatoon, Kirkland Lake and Sherbrooke are finding other things to do, one would think 'not losing to that damn Fehr' or 'i hate that little effing Count Bettman' would take a back seat to the saving the sport. if not, the NHL deserves to die.

i think cooler heads are prevailing.

That hasn't changed. The new lockout, and refusal of players to accept terms makes me even less likely to want to pay to support them in the future.

But that aside there doesn't need to be any reaction, or reactivity, or emotion, for the NHL to lose market share in these lockouts. All that it requires is people essentially forgettting to care about the product, turn to other entertainment products, or simply find something else to do with their time which then perhaps becomes their new ingrained behavior.

What the NHL, and NHLPA are engaging in is dangerous behavior for a league that is already highly leveraged, that has owners with many new arena's and massive debtload, and has few teams already that are quoting any kind of operating profit. The NHL is by its nature not can't miss entertainment in many of its markets. It is on the otherhand surpassed by several other sports in several of its markets. It could easily become more irrelevant than it already is in many of those markets and even those that are presently considered as solid hockey markets.

By not having, or producing a product, its easy for the consumer to learn not to consume the product. Now, or in the future.

I can think of few if any business models that would be comfortable with such moratoriums on not producing a product.
bang on, dude. out of sight....

the NHL lockout isn't even front page of the sports section in Canadian papers. they've got to be seeing this and thinking 'boys, this isn't '04, even the hardcore fans don't care that we're gone'.

like i just said above, if they can't see this, let them drown in their pride.

I really have to stop investing my emotions in these hyped up meetings. Just when I think real progress is going to be made both sides take a step back:

Darren Dreger "NHL and union will meet again early this week."

So, did we make any progress?

Is it bad to hope that its not solved by Thursday, so I can be sure to go see Yakupov in Guelph at the Subway Super Series??

Even if it is hypothetically (not expecting it to happen) solved today...season wouldnt start for a while, would Yakupov still play in super series? Would kids still play games for OKC for a bit, etc? Or would they immediately have to report to camp, etc.

Not all Oilers fans will have the luxury of watching him at Rexall like we will

If the lockout is ended, Yakupov and co would likely go to training camp for the Oilers right away

Well I hope when NHL does come back, the people who committed themselves to not going to games actually follow their words so the demand drops and I can actually get to a game this time.

Not very exciting Oilers hockey when the only games you get to go are the free tickets from the company to games nobody cares about (and hence why they were free).

I wonder if yakupov would join the AHL team. would make the most sense. He doens't need training camp and given their is a year. Their is no harm sending him to the AHL and losing a year of his ELC.

The AHL isn't an option for Yak, which is why he's playing Russia. If he's not playing in the NHL he has to play for Sarnia.

There is a ticket exchange thread here yearly, and tickets are sold for no more than face value.

Yes definitely. On November 9, the day after I sit 3 rows behind Yakupov's bench in Guelph .
Some might say I'm being greedy. I'd agree.

I'm pretty optimistic about this!

A long closed door meeting, a conference call and another meeting set up for later this week?
Wowzers!!!
