Michael Mersch and Wisconsin's first opponent is UMass-Lowell on Friday, March 29th at 4:30. They are the #4 seed of the Northeast. I certainly know we have some Manchester fans who regularly read this site. They will be able to see the game at Verizon Wireless Arena this weekend if they are so inclined.

Finally, Derek Forbort and North Dakota make the #2 seed in the West bracket. Their first opponent is Niagara on Friday, March 29th, at 5:30. Anyone in the Grand Rapids area next weekend will be able to go to the Van Andel Arena to watch.
Derek Forbort (Jr) - 40 GP, 4 g, 11 a, 15 pts, 18 PIM
Not talking about Forbort and agree he needs another year at ND.
TG you think Derek would be better off at UND or MAN next season?
i know he still has work and development to do, but at this point do you think he has reached max reward in the WCHA? would a move to the AHL be better for him and push him harder and faster?
i was talking about Mersch today with one of the guys I coach with. he went to high school with him and has seen a few U of W games. he thinks LA is going to love the kid and got him as a steal in the 4th round. i've only seen him play a few games so far, so i can't say much about him. sounds like he is likely a 3 or 4 line LW, most likely King's replacement in a few years. he was telling me that Mersch will fit in perfect with LA's style, that LA's style is Mersch's favorite way to play
I just saw that they rated him as the #6 rated OHL drafted defensemen in the recent article done by HF... dont know if its by scouts or just people who view the OHL... but it looks like a sleeper 5th rounder...
Seemed like we was doing well and I was looking forward to seeing him play in Ontario this weekend.
That's disappointing.
The ECHL web site still has him on the roster though. And when you look at the team scoring, it also shows players who are no longer on the team... but he's not noted as off the team.
Kings prospect Schumacher scored the go ahead goal, with Miller getting the secondary assist.
At the 2:00 mark in the video, you'll see Miller's huge open ice hip check.
That was a nice, solid hit. It actually looked more impressive the second time I watched it than the first. That's a classic hipcheck. Not Dariius Kasparitus good, but who is?
Sometimes they release players of their tryouts in order to sign them to a contract. I'm sure he wasn't cut due to performance.
Released from an amateur tryout, which would be standard protocol if he were to sign a Pro contract be it in with the Reign, Monarchs, or Kings. I think you can only play a number of games (5?) on ATO any ways. If he's still on the roster then it will likely be before the next game that he signs a PTO someplace.
