Top 60 from McKenzie.

Jones first. MacKinnon 2nd. Drouin 3rd.

Says Barkov is a very good skater.
For his size he is pretty good.. Button has been very high on Barkov all the time. Has had him going even 1st.

I don't think Barkov and Lindholm are getting the recognition they deserve. What they are doing in professional leagues against men at their young age is pretty incredible. I'd have no problem taking one of them 1st overall.

I could see Barkov at #1, but I don't think Lindholm sniffs the top 3.

Craig Buttons Rankings.

He's not high on Lindholm, hasn't been, so unsurprising.

Still has Rasmus Ristolainen in the 20's despite every list having him top 10.

Man good draft to have a top 7 pick. Still would like a forward.

I think MacKinnon and Jones are #1/2 for sure. I think Barkov is not much (if any) worse. So I'm taking Barkov at 3 over MacKinnon at 1. I think if we get a first pick we might take a gamble and trade down to #3.

Agreed, though I don't think Nichushkin is quite in that top tier.

Tier One: MacKinnon, Jones, Barkov, Drouin, Lindholm & Monahan
Tier Two: Shinaruk, Ristolainen, Nurse, Erne, Nichushkin, Zadorov, Mantha & Wennberg

Wennberg may be the next best thing up the middle outside of the high-end group, although Gauthier would make for an interesting fit. In any event, this is truly a bottom ten NHL lineup when it comes to balance/depth. It's definitely not a bad year to flounder. It's also a good year to sell if they go that route. Lots to like lower in the first round and throughout the second.

figures the Caps are in the cellar the first year that the lottery is extended to more teams. sucks.

here's hoping that our reward for the agony of watching this team play is one of those top guys. MacKinnon is the ideal, of course, but any of the top-tier centers is good with me.

The only thing for sure is that any of the non-playoff teams will have a chance at the first overall but any detailed changes beyond that are apparently not decided yet from what I've read. I'm praying it isn't like the NBA. Much prefer one team wins the first overall so all the other teams simply bumped down the slot.

Langway with you on your tier's there. For some reason I sweat picking Barkov..feels like bit of a bust potential there. Jones to a lesser extent but simply ending up being a middle pairing D.

Columbus having three first round picks should really help themselves.

The #2 pick would be ideal. Wouldn't mind either Jones or MacKinnon tbh.

I don't want Jones. If they end up sitting there with the #2 pick and him available or something, I hope they try to move down. I love what I've read about Barkov. I don't sense a great deal of bust potential myself. A bust by Jones might still leave him as a mid-pair defenseman, but probably one with the same hockey sense/decision-making problems that already plague this team. There's no need for more players like that.

Could the Caps trade anything for potentially a high draft pick? Would be nice to have Mackinnon or Jones.

You guys realize that by the time this pick comes into his own Ovechkin will be in his 30s? Man has McPhee screwed this thing up.

I am confident this organization can turn Seth Jones into the next Erik Johnson.

Without blowing up the team, I doubt it.

Potentially high draft pick?

You mean, by having the second least amount of points in the league....with being a single point ahead of Calgary...with 3 extra games played...we aren't in line for a high draft pick?

If Ovi, Kuznetsov, Backstrom all contribute 60+ Johansson around 50, Forsberg 50+, that pick 60 or so and we still have Ribeiro chipping in, I like our chances. Gonna be fun to watch.

We're going to cause a major setback in his development by blowing out one of his knees?

Jones seems like the perfect player to round out our top 4... except that he's a RD. Him on our blueline means 2 of Green, Carlson, and Orlov end up either on the bottom pairing or playing their weak side. If we're sitting at #2, I'd rather take Barkov and pass on that headache.

I share the same concern about Jones being a right shot but if he is the available guy they have rated highest I wouldn't want them to not pick him just because of that. There will be plenty of time to work that issue out before he would be ready for top minutes IMO.

Take Jones, and if/when he develops trade Carlson or Green. I wouldn't pass on a franchise Dman just to keep the status quo intact on the right side of the blueline.

Plus, he plays in the WHL. Mahoney probably loves him.

I've been huge on Jones since Thanksgiving 2010. Went to a game in Omaha and was absolutely dominant. Woulda taken him Top 10 in 2011.

Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Denis Potvin is the only defenseman taken #1 overall to win the Norris or reach the Hall of Fame. None of them have even become legit #1 defensemen since Ed Jovanovski in 1994.

I think that taking abody who isn't a center would be a huge mistake. There must be some teams that really want to get a D a little later in the order, so id you get #1, either take MacKinnon or trade down to take Barkov/Lindholm/Monahan, probably in that order.
