What's jarome iginlas value?

Lets suppose the year is gone due to the lockout. At age 36 what would Iginla's value be . What would the flames be able to get in return ?

Most likely a little less than what Rangers got for Brian Leetch. Both were old players with the same team. You never see that anymore....

If the season is lost Iginla will be an unrestricted free agent. His trade value will be negligible, unless out of loyalty he tells the Flames where he wants to sign and then waives his NMC so they can deal his rights - even then the value would be pretty minimal.

Yea I know but I'm pretty sure the guy would leave like that. Flames would probably do a sign and trade or something

Iginla will be a free agent. So his value will be a long term, retirement contract most likely.

I see him being Doan 2.0 and playing out the next 4 years in Calgary for less than market value.

If Calgary had traded him 1-2 years ago, like 90% of non-Calgary fans recommended, they would have gotten a much better return.

At this point, I would agree with B-prospect + mid to late 1st.

Agreed, although by all accounts, Iggy didn't want to be traded. Some players would rather spend their career in one city even if they aren't likely to win the Cup than move at the deadline to a contender and win somewhere it won't mean quite as much. Don't blame him. I think Iggy would return a young roster player with decent upside (Caron level) plus a 1st rounder, or perhaps at the most, a guy like Bret Connolly straight up.

This ship sailed 2 years ago.. Back then? I'd say a couple of 1sts or some blue chip prospect(s). Today? Late 1st, mid-level prospect. IMO, Iginla retires a Flame.

Purcell - Stamkos - Iginla
Malone - Vinny - St. Louis

Older top 6, but a good looking one. If we were really in cup contention (Lindback and new D worked out) I would highly consider Connolly for Iginla.

I'd rather do:
Malone // Stamkos // St. Louis
Purcell // Lecavalier // Iginla

Would love to see Vinny centering Iggy. A few years ago that would have been an incredibly dominating pair.

I doubt Yzerman would trade Connolly for Iginla though. I think Iginla is actually worth quite a bit more than that, but Y probably doesn't want to trade away young players.

I'd find something very painful about the prospect of Iginla winning a cup with the same team that robbed him of it in the first place.

No way do the Lightning offer up Brett Connolly for Iginla (unless they are very unhappy with Connolly for some reason).

If they are going to make some kind of instant gratification trade like that though, they should really be looking to add to their blueline.

In this scenario, Iginla is an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2013. Flames could lose him for nothing. If the lockout isn't resolved by then, they can't even trade his rights...

Iginla probably signs a $5-6 million/year deal for a few years somewhere - might even re-sign with Calgary.

That would be a nice top 6.

What do you mean by A prospect?

If you mean someone like Zibinejad or Hamilton, for example, I don't think it would be worth it.

No, not that high, but someone who projects to be a decent top-6 forward or top-4 defenseman.

Holy **** Pound where in the hell have you been? Thought you left the boards completely. Welcome back friend.

With Iginla is see more flex on the top 6. You could interchange all the wings.

Purcell/Malone - Stamkos - St.Louis/Iginla
Purcell/Malone - Vinny - St.Louis/Iginla

The big point I was trying to make is the only way we would trade Connolly (I also think as of right now Iginla is worth a little more than Connolly alone.) Is if we are serious cup contenders. If we some how look like a favourite going into the deadline and we need a solid top 6 rental player. Iginla would be ideal for us in that situation. That scenario is the only way I see trading Connolly right now (he also fits the Yzerplan well.)
