Seems like good guy but he faded badly in final month of year when Sox needed him
12M for 1 yr is too rich

I'm conflicted here. One the one hand, the Yankees definitely needed someone who could play 3rd base (and serve as the right hand side of a DH platoon once A-Rod comes back.) Youk was probably the best option left.
On the other hand, he's not a very good hitter anymore, he's even more injury prone than A-Rod, and I hate his stupid whiny ****ing face. So there's that.

Can play 1st and 3rd base and can be used as a DH. Too much money for a declining guy, but it is only one year. Not a bad pick up.
At worse, he doesn't work out and he's gone next year anyway.

Would rather have Reynolds but oh well. Hope Youk hits like a 2012 Chicago version and not 2012 Boston version.

Cool. Hopefully Youk comes remotely close to Bill James' incredibly optimistic 2013 projection (.265/.371/.465). If so, he'll be a steal.

Damn. My head is telling me that he's a 34 year old whose skills scream "poor aging curve" though, so I don't trust that too much. I'll concede that Bill James knows more about baseball than I do though.
Most importantly: if they give Youk #20, I will burn something.

That's basically 2011 Youk when he was a 3.7 WAR player.

Was probably the best option left (speaks levels about the market) but gonna take awhile to get used to.

They should have kept Martin instead and put him at third base.

As a Sox fan, I can say that I'm completely indifferent to this signing. I liked Youk while he was here; but he definitely seemed to be on the decline. Perhaps he has a resurgence in New York. Ever since we won a few championships; I'm not bothered by the Yankees and their fans like I used to be.
I think it's a good signing for them, probably for too much, but the Yanks & Sox can afford to overpay per year. I expect that he'll bounce back a little bit this year.
