It'll be very interesting to see what the Yankees do with Phelps. On the one hand, he was probably the best starter of the 3 last season. On the other hand, now that the Yankees have seen him pitch well out of the bullpen they'll definitely be very tempted to keep him there (see: Chamberlain, Joba.)

I also wouldn't be surprised to see Cashman sign another veteran starter (like Dempster or Saunders) on a one year deal, then try to package Phelps or Nova for a right fielder. It's risky, but he's gotten lucky with seemingly washed-up veterans in the past and may try again.

Oh god ,, KW better not bring him in

He was one of those player KW coveted for years and we see he always finds a way to bring them in even if they are finished

probably not, but I would want to see the reaction from Yankee fans after AS game controversy. Well with some anyway. Saw a lot of over reaction on both sides.

If the M's are paying his salary I'd take him as a Utility guy off the bench.

I remember some Cards fans wanted him instead of re-signing Holliday.

he can be kind of blowhardish even with baseball but there's no doubt that he knows a lot about the history of the game. i am not a fan of him personally but maybe i'm just in a good mood today.

kenny continues to be one of my favorite guys on the entire network.

Complete non-sequitor: I really hope Hunter Strickland, who was added to the Pirates' 40-man roster today, is able to make it as a relief pitcher in the Majors.

And that he grows a handlebar mustache or something.

Hunter Strickland is a name that is just meant for a surly set-up man.

I saw a report on t.v. saying that the Jays might haved signed Cesar Izturis to a minor league deal. If he makes the team, think they said it would be the first time that the Brothers are on the same team.

You better hope that it doesn't happen. Cesar Izturis is a horrible, horrible baseball player.

Maybe the first time two brothers are on the same Jays team. Jose and Bengie Molina were both on the Angels together for a few years. The Giambis were on Oakland for a while together and Pedro and Ramon were on the Sox at the same time. Sure there are countless others.

Edit: now thinking you meant the first time the Izturis brothers were on the same team, in which case I suck.

Well, yeah, I would assume so. Cesar Izturis is absolutely horrendous. I'm not really sure why anyone would want that brother on their team.

It was a minor league deal, he won't be on the team.

Minor league deals don't mean a player won't make the team, though I doubt Cesar will make the Blue Jays.

Just so everyone is clear, it was not Cesar Izturis but Julio Izturis (another brother).

Quote:
On Thursday a Blue Jays official told Sportsnet 590 The Fan the team has not signed Cesar Izturis. A short while later, Sportsnet's Shi Davidi learned the truth was the Blue Jays had actually signed another Izturis brother, in this case 23-year-old Julio.

According to baseball-reference.com, the 23-year-old Julio last played in 2011 with the short-season single-A Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in the San Francisco Giants system.

The Brewers signed Izturis early in the offseason last year and everyone was saying "There's no way he makes the team. It's a minor league deal, calm down he's just depth." Then the offseason went on and we got closer to spring training and no other backup infielders were signed and everyone knew at that point that Izturis made the team even before spring training started.

St. Louis Cardinals third baseman David Freese wasn’t injured Thursday afternoon when he crashed his SUV into a tree in west St. Louis County as he tried to avoid a deer in the road, according to police, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

Good to hear he's not hurt. If a deer was on the road, I'd be more apt to check my mirror quickly and slam on the brakes.

Arent you supposed to speed up when hitting a deer rather then hit the brakes?

You are supposed to release the brake right before impact to raise the noise of the car as much as possible to reduce the chance that the deer flies into the windshield.
