Great so the world of politics are now being discussed with this present cba negotiation. Great.. expect it to get quasi-personal whether here or in other places (ie messageboard, talk radio, tv).. this is gonna be fantastic

It was a reference to the Puck Daddy article that was linked to afterward.

And it's too bad that it wasn't read - it's a decent article, despite its bias.

6 years 50-50 every year. That probably won't fly with Mr. Fear.

That's exactly where everyone thought it would end. Good from the NHL to move there first and relatively fast. Now it's all on the players.

Well, there's the "fair deal" they were looking for.

IMO, if they reject this, they lose the court of public opinion which seemed to be on their side.

I don't see them agreeing to this.

Me neither, I'm sure they'll have a few tweeks to make. But I can't see the league going higher than 50-50 split.

What would a 50-50 split change the cap to?

Am told in NHL offer there is a proposal designed to "protect" players for salary reductions in the initial years

Also league has taken off table some of the systemic changes to player contracts which they asked for in initial July offer

Then they'll just have to accept less later...

They would be stupid to refuse this.

If that's true barring any sneaky stuff in the owners proposal tha players better take this or they can get bent.

And what does the PA get in return for reducing their share to 50%?

Don't get me wrong, I hope it works. But just because 50/50 is a nice, round number, doesn't mean it solves everything. The NHL has still yet to "give" anything in these negotiations.

What they get? No roll back, no max contract lenght, etc.

We all knew it would end 50-50. The league doesn't add anything else it seems reguarding UFA age, arbitration, contract lenght, more ELC years, etc.

The players have to take this. Or they get less later. Their choice now.

The NHLPA needs to take this deal, it's very reasonable upon initial glance (which is all the majority of fans will give it anyways) because I agree with Morris, if they reject this they will start to lose a lot of fan support

50-50 is completely fair, it's how other leagues operate AND NHL players still get guaranteed contracts...

Looks like overages in existing deals will be spread out over the life of the contract?

I didn't "know" it would end 50-50. And I have an understanding as to how a negotiation works.

One side doesn't get to benefit 100%.

It that was the attitude that was presented to me at a negotiating table, I'd walk out.
