Jesse Joensuu

This guy signed a 1-way deal with the Islanders, but it also includes an out clause back to HV71 in Sweden, I beileve. He's going to be competing for likely a bottom six role, what I have to ask is how did his game progress in Sweden this past year if at all? I know he had a great game against the US at the World Championships, but I'm really more concerned if his game is suited more for a checking line role or scoring line role? Also has he played more RW or LW?

Thanks guys!

He's become more determined and he's learned to skate while in Sweden. He's learned to become a professional athlete, he was excellent in HV71's physical tests, having the fastest 40m run (acceleration) and the 30 minute run. Earlier when he played for finnish NT he was a bit timid, now he's more of a presence on the ice.

He's still much more a checking line guy with some offense than a scoring line guy, but hopefully he's one of those bottom 6'ers that can score clutch goals in the playoffs. He scored some pretty big goals for Finland and for HV71 as well. I really hope he makes the team and I believe he will.

He played quite a bit for the Islanders in the past. I don't see why he wouldn't make the team this year if he's improved.

Bump.

Has 6 goals in 5 games for Assat right now, how is he looking compared to as early as last year?

I think he really got a good confidence boost in last years world championships. He looked like an NHLer then and looks like one now. It's amazing how much he's gone forward in the last couple of years.

He improved a lot last year in Sweden and he looked good then. Now it looks like he's realized that he's a good player and doesn't shy away from being a decision maker.

I still think he is going to be a 50 goal scorer in the NHL some day, no way Stamkos is better then this guy

Jesse is a truck and one of the strongest guys in SM-Liiga. I like player types like him and if he doesn't come a regular NHLer I'll be surprised.

I think his upside right now looks like second line power forward in the NHL. Very strong, good in front of the net.

Do i think he'll reach that? No.

He has been very impressive during his lockout time with Ässät. He has clearly improved as a player during his time in North America.

Maybe the best lockout-refugee in the Sm-league so far?

In the physical department but we have to give credit to Elitserien also.

Joensuu has been quite impressive this season. Of all the Ässät games I have seen (only three), the one thing in common has been that Joensuu has been able to create the most chances for Ässät.

He has clearly improved in Sweden and certainly looks like he deserves his one-way contract

Sad about the lockout...it would be nice to see the faces of Islanders fans when they see the new Joensuu.
