It certainly would, and make GM's more accountable for their mistakes. Could also be a way of stopping teams from dealing for bad contracts for assets. Burke did that with the Lightning a couple years ago right?

Desjardins estimates that about 40% of the game is captured by Corsi analysis.

Uhh...Sure . I was replying to a post that said with the new CBA if Redden's contract counts against the cap, it helps keep MDZ's contract down. It wouldn't; it would create a Kessel-like situation where the Rangers might have to trade him due to cap space if they can't fit him in.

How much was revenue sharing 2011-2012?

If 200 million more less equal?

No we lost the 4th round pick we acquired from that deal because of the Jonas Frogren signing.

Plus, the players acquired weren't buried; they were injured.

Olaf Kolzig, Jamie Heward and Andy Rogers.

In my haste, may have noted 4 years for entry level. Told that I am wrong with that number..it appears to be remaining at 3 years

Not a big deal anyways. It's the RFA going up a year which will impact more players than the ELC which only gets some of the rookies now.

@JSportsnet: Another interesting tidbit from NHL offer... Players' Salaries for those NHLers playing in the AHL would be part of the cap.
Sucks for GM but good for the players (for some of them -- some will lose their jobs). They will basically get them to remain in the league despite their contract. Teams can still buyout but that probably won't happen with big salary and term remaining on a contract.

Very happy to hear the elimination of long term retirement deals. I would much rather see a higher rate of star player turnover, makes things/free agency more interesting.

Allows more parity too. Low level teams are in the race more now for top tier players.

You're right, but the Rangers till save money which is what I was trying to get at.

So Del Zotto gets traded to whoever. The Rangers still have to fill that roster spot left open by Del Zotto.

For simplicity, let's say Wade Redden has a 1 million dollar salary and Del Zotto wants to sign a 1 million dollar contract. The Rangers have 1.5 million dollars in cap space.

With Redden's contract not counting against the cap, the Rangers can sign Del Zotto to his 1 million dollar salary, but they still owe Redden his 1 million dollar contract, thus making the Rangers total spending on Del Zotto and Redden 2 million dollars.

With Redden's 1 million dollar contract counting against the cap, they cannot sign Del Zotto to his 1 million dollar salary because they only have 0.5 million dollars in cap space left. So they trade him. However, they have to fill his open roster spot. So the Rangers have two options.

They can bring up Redden and his 1 million dollar salary and have 0.5 million dollars in cap space. This makes the total spending on Del Zotto (0) and Redden (1) 1 million dollars.

Their other option is to sign some scrub to replace Del Zotto for 0.5 million dollars or less. This makes the total spending on Redden (1) and Del Zotto's replacement (0-0.5) 1-1.5 million dollars.

So by Redden's contract counting against the cap, the Rangers will save anywhere between 0.5-1 million dollars in salaries.

Hopefully it's time to lock these guys in a room and get this done. Please let there be a season.

Well, that's not really the argument I was refuting, since you said "Del Zotto probably won't get as much money as he would if Redden didn't count against the cap". But sure, maybe the Rangers save money, yet you're over-simplifying things. The Rangers don't exactly care about spending that extra money, since Redden's been buried for years...so why would they want to trade off a better player to "save" some money, even though MDZ would probably still have a lower cap hit than Redden so they're "losing" cap space with this CBA.

Essentially, I'm saying this is something that the teams who can afford to bury contracts gave up begrudgingly, to help the less fortunate teams have a shot at better players, rather than as something they would prefer.

Hopefully Fehr agrees that this is a fair deal and sells it to the players.

there will be a deal probably in the next day or two, no way a deal can't be made now.

Limit on contract length will remain unchanged? Doesn't bode well for the Leafs.

More likely to get him with this team playing 82 than a 3/60 chance at first through a lottery.

I'd like to believe that there's deals lined up that were never issued during the offseason because of CBA discussions.
