I'm embarassed the Devils are part of this ****show of a league (granted, I'm sure on some level Clarkson and others have to agree with what's going on, but to this point they haven't been the militant ones in public - nor has Vanderbeek among the owners' group).

RT @mirtle: Doan: "We did come to 50-50... You heard what Don said."

what the hell? i feel like the players have no clue what's going on in these meetings. i don't understand all of it either, but these answers are just pathetic.

I don't know if that works. Arbitrators are for when people don't see eye to eye. They are seeing each other eye to eye but completely disagree

Crosby says it feels owners treated their proposal as "take it or leave it." Added it seemed like their ideas were dismissed in 10 minutes.

Both sides have their heels dug firmly into the ground.
Neither side is blinking over the issue of losing games.
Both sides are content with the "my way or the highway" approach.

Who budges first? Fehr? High ranking owners like Jacobs or Ilitch? That's a battle of longevity right there... nobody comes out on top with that type of mentality.

Either both sides have to agree to arbitration (not happening, since both clearly want undisputed victory) or it has to be imposed on them by some outside force like the government or a judge when an impasse gets reached, which I believe it was during the baseball strike/replacement player fiasco in 1995.

Also 04-05. Federal mediators were involved in the last lockout.

Soon after, the NHLPA gave in to the salary cap.
Season was still canceled... but they finally had a place to negotiate from.

Didn't the NHLPA go 30+ days without making an offer? Sounds like they're the ones not willing to negotiate.

Seriously shut up Crosby. Your offer is insane, almost on the level of the "scorched Earth offer" you accused Bettman of. What the hell does 50/50 with guaranteed contracts even mean? 10% growth? You must still be concussed if serious.

Have the players responded to a single proposal the NHL has presented?

All 3 proposals were on the HRR split.

Stupid NHLPA. The owners (most) are making money somewhere else...you arent.

Lose hundreds of millions this year with a shortened season (billions if no season) for a few hundred million in the future? What sense does that make?

Eh, the PA played hardball and lost. Upsetting to see, the NHL probably wasn't going to take anything unless it was practically identical to their offer.

Neither side is really willing to negotiate, sure the owners upped their offer, but it remains to be seen if they really want to negotiate. Going down 7%, implementing a max contract length, among other things favoring the owners isn't really negotiating, in my opinion. They went from a ridiculous proposal to a less ridiculous proposal. I still think the NHLPA should've followed their lead and actually tried a proposal where they give in a bit, but they want to play Fehrian (cool word) hardball it seems.

The split is talking billions. Going down 7 percent will be probably equivalent to at least 600 million over the next six years. Once they give in a little more, it's doubtful they can ever get that advantage back. They can't just think now and in the next six or seven years, they also have to think in the next 20 years. They have to think about their long-term future and the long-term future of the ones who replace them.

Reported 3.3 billion in revenues last year (7 percent of that is 210 million), it's a lot of money we're talking about here, contrary to most peoples belief.

lol oh Zach...he's one of the five players that aren't really going to be affected by this lockout anyway with the stupid signing bonuses, so he can afford to be a militant.

It sounds to me like the owners want to play an 82 game season, but only under their rules and the players want to look like the good guys no matter how long it takes.

I'm usually an optimist, but I can pretty confidentally say for the first time that there will be no NHL this season.

How does it work anyway? Do the players split that 210 million? So about 300k each? Is that what these millionaires are fighting for?

That both sides are now talking about going to 50-50 gives us a finish line. Getting there now is what has to be worked out.
