Numerous defensive prospects for Flyers expected to have big 2012-13 season
With an incredible amount of young talent on the NHL roster, an intriguing group of prospects on the verge of becoming NHL regulars, and championship aspirations, there is a delicate balancing act going on within the Philadelphia Flyers' front office. There is also a vital need to keep the defense from falling into disrepair with Chris Pronger's injury problems and Kimmo Timonen's inevitable fall from the upper echelon of NHL defensemen.
While defensive stories like those of Brandon Manning or Shayne Gostisbehere highlight the Philadelphia prospect pool, there are plenty of other interesting things to look for this year both at forward and between the pipes.… read more
Shafer is always high on the Flyers middling defensive prospects.
It also seems that Nick Cousins has been "disappeared" from the report.
Ghost will be far from "middling" if he makes the USWJC team..which based off of his summer camp is a really high chance. He looked better then most of the other first round high potential picks.

In his defense, defensemen taken after the first two rounds don't get any hype and are thought to be middling, unless detroit drafts them, until they actual play in the NHL. Mark Giordano and Daniel Girardi were ufas viewed as testiwuides playing defense until they actually played well in the NHL.

I'm high on Gustafsson, Bourdon (once again after he disappeared for a while), Manning, and Gostisbehere.
I can't understand what people see in Lauridsen nor am I that impressed by Kessel despite being hopeful at the start.
Larsson and Vasiliev were only mentioned because they are our only two euro prospects.

Nick Cousins was never part of the report.
Laughton is a better prospect so he fits the top prospect for juniors category. As for the other two stories with Leier (now injured) and Suellentrop, they are far more interesting stories in an appropriate context.
Whether or not Cousins' run-in with the law recently is an interesting enough story does not matter since it's still an inappropriate subject for an article on a website like HF.

Cousins was still in the top 20.
Chris, If the report was just concerning "hockey". I beg to differ with you here. Cousins belongs in the top ten of our prospects and what he is doing for the SSM and his progress this season on the ice.

Not to say that I disagree (since I've said this a few times), but Chris Pryor is super-high on Lauridsen. In December, he was on WIP and singled Lauridsen as someone who was close and is supposed to get an NHL look this year. Of course, the Flyers have no record of developing long-term defensemen for this team, but it seems he's held in pretty high regard.
Chris, you do know that a junior player is an amateur, right?
Yes, but I have no control over the format, I have no involvement in brainstorming for these new articles, and I am not allowed to alter the template.
Don't blame me. I noticed it when writing, mentioned it, and the editors will decide how to proceed from there.
In theory though, junior is a specialized and specific form of amateur hockey that deserved its own section whereas the rest of amateur hockey is lumped together unceremoniously.
Really though, it's not so important unless you're bringing it up to attack someone.

He's still a really sluggish player comparitively, and though I'm not saying that there is no potential for his involvement in NHL competition, he's got hurdles to overcome, particularly in this system.
Not all of Bourdon, Gus, Manning, Gost, and Lauridsen are making the NHL in any significant way. That's just the reality of the situation. Lauridsen right now represents the bottom of that top 5 in my opinion.
Then again, Bourdon was also a sluggish player (still is a bit), and he's become much better over time. We'll see with Lauridsen.
Yep. We were discussing it on the prospect thread.
Too late to alter the article though.

Turns out it's not true
RT @billmeltzer: It looks like Valeri Vasiliev is still with MHK Spartak and not the Waterloo Black Hawks. He played both yesterday and today for Spartak.

Oh... I lose then (Well eliteprospect loses I guess)
Almost everyone else ran with the eliteprospects thing, I didn't know that's who first reported it. I guess no one bothered to check in with the Flyers.
