Toews, Wirtz, and Bettman

Toews had some harsh comments for Bettman, but I just saw a burn on Toews. To be honest, I don't even care. Wirtz has been much better than his dad, but he is full of ****, too, not just Gary.

Quote:
Adam Jahns ‏@adamjahns
Toews via text on canceled games:"This seems to be our commissioner's bread & butter; it's almost like he is excited to take away hockey"
Quote:
Adam Jahns ‏@adamjahns
More from Toews on cancellations: "Itís another disappointing but expected move from the league." #Blackhawks

Again, Toews trashes Bettman (per @ChrisKuc ) Not a word about Wirtz, whose had a full building for 5 years but claims he loses $.

yeah, there's an article in the tribune:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports...,1418374.story

Quote:
“It’s another disappointing but expected move from the league," Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews said via text from Phoenix, where he is working with his personal trainer. "This seems to be our commissioner's bread and butter; it's almost like he is excited to take away hockey from the fans and the players just because he can. Personally, I still haven't heard a valid argument from the league for what they are doing, just that they want more and last time it wasn't enough. If they would be as determined to solve these issues as they are quick to point the finger at us (the players), this would be settled by now. But they aren't, and now we know we’ll miss at least two weeks because of it.”

Added teammate Steve Montador, who has been heavily involved in the negotiations: "It's something you could have anticipated given the nature of the negotiations lately. But when it actually happens you just have a sigh and realize if it wasn't real before it's definitely real now. It's disappointing and unfortunate."

Toews is not going to rip Wirtz in the media. Bettman just gives players a target.

lol @ Rocky being so much better than Bill.

Bill may have been behind the times, but at least he was loyal.

Well, Rocky is way more flexible with his money, but Rocky is still an ******* with saying he is losing money. No one believes that.

flexible with money how? What has he done that was so extraordinary that Bill didn't do in his last years with the team?

other than increase ticket prices by 200%

Well, for starters, Rocky ate 8M+ in salary last year to pay players to not be on the roster. Nevermind the commitments Rocky's handed out to guys like Keith and Hossa. If Bill was around, those deals don't happen. Hell, you probably have a hard time getting him to pay Kane and Toews what they're worth, nevermind Sharp or Seabrook.

If Bill were still around, our GDTs from home games would be pretty slow, there might not be a cup, and the Hawks might be the team with an empty stadium that people on this site had nicknamed "the Nordiques"

I know in the last lockout, Bill was one of the biggest hardliners. I'm sure Rocky isn't the most generous guy around...but you don't hear the same b****ing about him as you do about Jacobs and Snider...maybe he's more quiet about it...although his insistence that the team was losing money was pretty brazen.

Toews needs to be quiet already. No one is naive enough to buy his and his union's ridiculous propaganda, just like no one buys the owner's whining either.

Yeah.. it was fine the first time he spoke out, but it is getting old. Love Toews, but he's made his opinion clear enough.

If Bill Wirtz was here, there'd be 1/10th as many Hawks fans. He was an embarrassment to the game and made this team his own personal voodoo doll to the fans and took great pride in killing the sport in this town down to the grassroots level of people even playing the game in or around this city. Rinks have never been as alive as the are now. People actually talk about the Hawks, talk about hockey. He should be forgotten and fade into history completely as his actions were a black eye on this proud franchise and the game.

I'm on the players' side pretty firmly - but i'm getting tired of their whining. I'd have more respect for them (including Toews) if they called the owners of their own team out - but b****ing about Bettman is the convenient way of avoiding biting the hand that feeds them, so to speak.

Rocky was one of the 30 owners who voted unanimously to lock the players out. You don't see Toews calling him out - I'm not dumb, I understand why...but it does make the anti-Bettman whining pretty unsympathetic sounding.

My favorite quote is from Paul Bissonnette.

Quote:
I would take a pay cut if owners would lower ticket prices for all the loyal fans
True story. Owners want to pay less and get the same amount. Greedy businessmen down to the core.

Cullk, that's just more posturing by the players. Don't fall for it.

There are two sides to this negotiation.

Both sides are greedy as all hell, but the owners are obviously more businessmen than the NHL players.

Rocky is not just as bad. He actually pays for talent and then retains said talent.

Two things $Bill was not a big fan of.

No, he's not. We have home games on TV now. I know your not from around here and all, but to us locally, that alone will make him not as bad.
