Seabrook.

Add Jackman. Won't win anytime soon, but certainly better defensively than some of the current options.

Easily Josh Gorges. Faced the highest quality of competition out of all defenseman, blocked 250 shots and had a +14 while averaging 22 minutes on the last place team.

Seabrook.

PS-Where's that billybud user? Not only was he wrong about Letang being better defensively than Hamonic, he also laughed at me for voting mcdonagh 4th overall d-man and hfboards voted him in at 6th. Such ignorance makes me lol.

Marc-Eduoard Vlasic. One of the smartest and most defensively sound players in the game, but won't get the recognition he deserves, as per usual...

McDonagh isn't even the best defensive defenseman on his team so your last comment there made me laugh.

Is this the healthy staal argument? I said this shouldn't even be in the discussion till Staal proves himself as his pre-concussion self again. If this is about girardi, the lol is on you.

Seabrook, then Seidenberg.

I dunno what's more sad, that Karlsson is even a choice, or that some people actually voted for him.

Staal, yes. He showed post-concussion he was still capable of being a defensive beast. It took him a bit to get there but you could see it in playoffs. I love both of them so there's really no bias here other than me being a Rangers fan.

Gorges is a great defensive defensemen, and the fact that he faced the highest quality of competition is no doubt a testament to that, but none of those other statistics are really that relevant (for example, Chara had 87 blocked shots and was 5th on his team among defensemen). At this point in the voting, it really isn't 'easily' anybody.

250 shots? That is like 10th place if he was on the Rangers.

Weber and Pietrangelo 3rd and 4th? Uh, not too sure about that.

Seabrook and Mitchell really stand out to me among guys still not voted in. Glad to see they'll be the next ones in.

Actually, it'd be second, and first amongst defenseman (Girardi has 211). Or was that sarcasm?

Anyway, real-time stats are a bad way to compare players because the record keeping is wildly inconsistent around the league, because each stadium has their own people keeping track. Some stadiums have different definitions of a hit or a blocked shot than others, some are biased towards their own team, etc. The effect is much worse for hits than blocked shots, but still, neither is particularly reliable.
