I'm 17 and I think this is B.S. Amanda Todd should not be 100% victimized. You may think I'm out of line for going against this girl who was bullied so much and so extensively, but C'MON! At the end of the day, it was her decision to allow these bullies to get to her head, it was her mistakes she made, and it was her mentally weak mind that could not re-build her strength and allow her to move on with life.
I completely agree with you 100%, alas, it's still sad to see someone take their own life. I don't think lounge is the place to talk about this, maybe the unmoderated politics section of the board is where we can voice our opinions....
A lot of times I look at suicide as a selfish act, but there are situations where I do not. If you watch everyone you love brutally murdered before your eyes then kill yourself I personally do not consider that to be selfish. That is obviously an extreme case, but unfortunately it happens.
But the person obviously didn't think of anyone around them. Hence the selfishness.
As someone who has dealt with depression to the point of suicide, and has written articles and papers for my schooling on the topic, i can`t say i agree with you. Taking ones life is a choice that people dont want to do but feel it is the only way to make them happy.
I have come close to doing it but have never attempted it but you think about family and friends but all the gets pushed aside because what people say. Depressed people are very impressionable and when you are being told "you`re garbage/s**t/worthless/gay...etc" it takes a toll on the mind.
I do understand where you are coming from in the selfishness view but when you put you`re feet in there shoes you can see what people go through. I was bullied extensively growing up and was never very popular, but always tried to fit in. Im 21 never had a gf or anything close to it, still havent been kissed or made alot of friends. i have my 3-5 close friends but what these teenages need to know is that is all that matters.
I still get insulted cuz im a virgin and havent had a gf but you need to let things slide off your back. i get insulted because my favorite music is taylor swift and im a straight male.
The one problem i see in todays world is that people continusly say "Suicide is not an option" when we should be telling these kids "Suicide is an option, but think hard about it" When government and all these helplines say its not an option they make these kids think they are all alone, if we aknowldge that it is an option but when that needs to be dealt with these kids will understand they are not alone, others feel this way.
What if people didnt aknowledge cancer or aids then what would happen to people with them. Depression is just as big as these in sickness catorgory and we need to tell people it does exist but we are working to stop it
