It's pretty clear they're out of touch. From day 1, all they wanted was a white, capital R on the helmet for the old-timers who (can) still remember. I don't blame the designers one bit, they were cornered from the get-go.
The reveal was about as cringe-worthy as it gets too.
First, I'm not a fan of the name & as a former season ticket holder they never asked me to be part of any focus group or what I thought of the name. Having said that though, it is sort of an original name, no one else in NA or anywhere in the world that I know of use it. The majority of teams in Ottawa use the red & black colours on their uniforms including the Sens. There is a history of logging in Ottawa & using a Paul Bunyan type person as a mascot may have some relevance including the logo with a skill saw.
Yes, they wanted something to tie in to history but I'm not so sure it was for the old folks in Ottawa but rather for the political elite of this town who wanted the tie in. The name won't stop me or anyone who is a fan of football from going to games. Hopefully, they do well & Ottawa has a team for yrs to come, looking forward to having football back in Ottawa. Then again I'm a Tiger-Cat fan.
REDBLACKS is just for legal purposes as that's what's going on all the merch.

I like it, and I like the logo. Why people care so much I'll never know. Some of you are behaving as though you've been personally insulted... All the others mentioned are pretty bad as well. I doubt that people ever really like the new team names at the get go, but over time everyone here will grow to love it and defend it. Keep in mind that those complaining are likely the vocal minority as with most complaining. Most people likely don't care enough either way.
