Either that or the focus groups weren't great. Either or. From the posters that liked the Highlanders, I'm wondering where they got the members of said focus groups in the first place.

It's pretty clear they're out of touch. From day 1, all they wanted was a white, capital R on the helmet for the old-timers who (can) still remember. I don't blame the designers one bit, they were cornered from the get-go.

The reveal was about as cringe-worthy as it gets too.

RedBlacks is like the name a high school whose teams used to be called the Redskins comes up with to save on paint.

Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that the official name of the Miami Heat is the Miami HEAT.

Of course no one calls them this outside of official press releases, so call this team the Redblacks and they'll be the Redblacks. Start a twitter campaign called #Onecap or #Redblacks or something.

also just thought of this positive, if there is another team wanting to call themselves the REDBLACKS, it will already be taken, so they won't have to go through this.

Redblacks...
Um, not liking it. Kinda embarrassing.

I would have preferred calling them the "NADS"

First, I'm not a fan of the name & as a former season ticket holder they never asked me to be part of any focus group or what I thought of the name. Having said that though, it is sort of an original name, no one else in NA or anywhere in the world that I know of use it. The majority of teams in Ottawa use the red & black colours on their uniforms including the Sens. There is a history of logging in Ottawa & using a Paul Bunyan type person as a mascot may have some relevance including the logo with a skill saw.

Yes, they wanted something to tie in to history but I'm not so sure it was for the old folks in Ottawa but rather for the political elite of this town who wanted the tie in. The name won't stop me or anyone who is a fan of football from going to games. Hopefully, they do well & Ottawa has a team for yrs to come, looking forward to having football back in Ottawa. Then again I'm a Tiger-Cat fan.

"We couldn't find a name everyone likes so we're going to pick a name no one likes."

Sound reasoning

Yeah... I sincerely doubt that there is going to be another team who comes along and demands to be called the "RED BLACKS"...

Highlanders would've been so much better. Still love that name.

It's crazy to see so much open space, instead of the Gardiner snaking it's way through a forest of crappy condos

REDBLACKS is just for legal purposes as that's what's going on all the merch.

I really hope newspapers say Redblacks, it might actually catch on if it looks like a word.

I like it, and I like the logo. Why people care so much I'll never know. Some of you are behaving as though you've been personally insulted... All the others mentioned are pretty bad as well. I doubt that people ever really like the new team names at the get go, but over time everyone here will grow to love it and defend it. Keep in mind that those complaining are likely the vocal minority as with most complaining. Most people likely don't care enough either way.

Go REDBLACKS!

I guess it's their money, so they'll use a name they think will work.

If it doesn't, they'll change it up.

I like seeing the R; and understand a little of the Rough Riders as log rollers back in the day history, so the saw makes some link.

And the best team at anything is named the All Blacks.

Be interesting to see if we take the field with a haka display!

Complainers, you do know that the team name is already chosen...

Football is back. Quit complaining and enjoy the ride!

Just because it's been chosen doesn't mean we have to like it. It's called free speech. A person can be critical of a name/logo/mascot/cheer and still support the team.

Free speech?? Never heard of it... tell me more...

Point is, time to get behind the team and let the name go.

Remember, we are called the Senators for god's sake. Winning will cure all unhappiness with team names, mascots, cheers, drink cups, cheerleaders, stadiums, etc...

I'll repeat my point because this statement clearly shows you missed it: A person can be critical of a name/logo/mascot/cheer and still support the team.

Let's hope that the pendulum swings from being critical to supporting the team.

Right now, this post is filled with more of the former than the latter. In time, this will change....there is no question about that.
