Eastern Conf. Standings: Who will finish #15? (Assuming there's a season)

Because we need something to do to pass the time, I figured we'd make a poll about our projections of the EC standings (assuming there's a season), starting from worst to first. So, which EC team will finish last in the Eastern Conference? Why?

Went with Ottawa just because I don't see them stepping up. Losing Alfie will hurt. I want to see if Karlsson can come anywhere close to what he did last season. Turris seems to have taken a step forward, which is huge, but will he maintain it? Too many uncertainties.

They play half the season, Miller gets hurt and Buffalo bombs. Last place in the league, lined up for 1st overall pick and we lose the lottery to Edmonton.

I went with the Islanders. I like their young talent, especially Tavares who I think will take the next step if there's a season, but there's still a lot of holes in that lineup and the EC is very competitive this season. Also, Parenteau had good chemistry with their forwards, and for a team who already had trouble scoring, losing one of their top scorers can't help.

Hey, if the Sabres were a thoroughbred, the last two seasons would suggest we hang back and then charge hard down the stretch. This season may be six furlongs instead of one mile, and the race may be over by the time we start making a push.

And if Miller gets injured for a substantial part of the season, this team will be bad. (I suppose you can say that about many teams, but that was his assumption.)

Fair enough. I was just surprised by the immediate gloom-and-doom.

Every other year I'm optimistic about our team. I'm taking a different stance this year.

Well the Sabres could be anywhere from 1st to 15th in the east, depents what team shows up. I think they will finish somewhere around 8th this year but if Miller is off and a key defenceman gets hurt they could end up really bad. Looking at the list of teams its pretty close between 3-15. I am never one to hope for Buffalo to lose but Nathan Mackinnon would be a nice piece to add.

I pick the Canadiens

I'm going with Ottawa as well. Young team, went WAY over expectations last year. Their D is pretty awful in their own zone, goaltending is unproven, and everyone just seems prime for a letdown after alot of things broke perfect for them last year. I also see Tampa hitting rock bottom at some point soon. It is far to early to really make any picks for the season as the cap situation could change drastically for a few teams.

Islanders. Just because they're the Islanders

(I know I'm REALLY going out on a limb here.)

I couldn't help but laugh at that.

The Leafs lack of proven goaltending seems like the biggest difficiency at a key position for anyone in the East. I pick them.

Who had the worst record in 2012? I'd vote for them.

Toronto. That team has so so many holes, and they did absolutely nothing in the off-season to fix them.

Toronto's a mess - the Islanders could have an Ottawa-like season where the youth steps up and starts performing. Montreal and Tampa Bay have some strong players - I just see Toronto being rife with inconsistency.

Whoever is in the celler of the NE is going to be close to the bottom there and my guess would be the Leafs. However I really don't like Winnipeg's team and I think they will be in last place in the east.

I'm the first person to vote New Jersey? That team is in trouble if Kovalchuk or Zajac miss even a small amount of time. What happens if Henrique has a sophomore slump?

They are still a very good team who almost always find a way to get the job done, IMO the will not be anywhere near the bottom of the east.
