Yes, 3 way proposal. Hopefully try something a bit different than the typical Luongo proposals.
(this is going with an assumption that Luongo would waive his NTC to Anaheim, and not CBJ)
Anaheim
Roberto Luongo
Manny Malhotra
(7.83 million in, 6.9 million out)
Anaheim improves their goaltending and gets a strong defensive center who can take pressure off of Getzlaf.
Columbus
Jonas Hiller
Andrew Cogliano
Mason Raymond
(about 9 million in, 10 million out)
I know Dubinsky and Foligno have yet to play a game for Columbus, but adding a legit starting goaltender makes Columbus a better team despite slightly downgrading their offense (although Cogliano and Raymond have produced at a similar clip to Dubinsky and Foligno).
Vancouver
Brandon Dubinsky
Nick Foligno
Steve Mason (Cap/roster move, and a stop-gap backup for Lack)
(10 million out, 10 million in)
Vancouver addresses their need of a 3rd line center in Dubinsky, and while he may not be what some fans consider a "legit" top 6'er, Foligno adds some grit into their 2nd/3rd line rotation of Higgins/Hansen/Kassian. Mason can backup Schneider/be an insurance policy and be used as a stop-gap to give Lack a bit more seasoning.
*Again, a bit different approach. Just tried to get caps similar and improve each team. Hopefully im not too far off base (again, assuming Luongo would waive to Anaheim)
Couldn't that work-out better though:
- You get whatever the other team gives up for Bobby Lou
- You can gradually give Lack more time in the NHL - picking his opponents and giving him the best chance for success while still having CS as the starter for a time (where as Bobby Lou seems to want to play 150 games a season)
?
Honest question; Do you think your opinion holds more merit than the people who select team Canada, who pick the all-star players as well as the people who choose the Vezina finalists?
It's a comical situation because they wouldn't have needed to firesale Luongo if they just traded him back when he requested a trade and his value was highest in the first place.
His contract means he has negative value.
That and he only wants to go to Florida.
Tallon isnt giving up anything of substance to take on that boat anchor of a contract and he may want nothing to do with it at all. You cant speculate and say it would have been easy to get rid of Luongo earlier.
Brodeur shouldn't have even made the team, imo. They decided to go with the more experienced goaltender over Fleury, and I don't blame them for that, but please don't pretend that starting him was ideal for the situation. Price wasn't making the team with 80 games under his belt, though I personally would've taken either him or.
Brodeur was on the decline, it just wasn't as obvious at the time. The goalie crop for Canada was weak at the Olympics. Behind Luongo, there really was only Ward or Fleury to pick from. They had Steve Mason as the fifth goalie on the depth chart.
You're talking like Canada won in spite of Luongo. Which is ridiculous. Luongo might not have stolen any games but he didn't lose them any either. He made key saves particularly in the dying minutes of the gold medal game (on parise if i recall). Luongo's international record speaks for itself.
Before we comment on Luongo's play in series against boston there way too many extenuating circumstances to completely fall on roberto's shoulders. (ie the depleted team due to injuries, the complete lack of scoring, etc etc etc).
Also the elite title? how about being 2nd only to martin brodeur (arguably the best goalie of our time (respect to hasek and roy) in wins over the last 10 seasons? He's elite because he's been playing at a high level for a long time.
and the blind hatred stuff probably comes from comments like "sucking chrome off a 57 chev....", kinda unnecessary and troll-like.
Yeah it's a pretty obvious troll. Particularly what he's been saying about the Olympics - like it's somehow a bad thing Luongo won gold. Just being selected to go to the Olympics by the best hockey minds in the game - nevermind on a stacked Canadian team - is incredible praise. Nevermind that there are only 3 goalies of our century who have won a gold medal.

Seeing as how my opinion is what I have made a living off of, yes.
Honest question: Does having authority validate every decision a person makes?
For example, because Brian Burke is an NHL GM, and because he chose to trade
Tyler Seguin, Dougie Hamilton, and Jared Knight for Phil Kessel that automatically makes it a good decision?
Do you think every decision Hockey Canada has ever made has been a good one? Because I could've told you going in to the 2006 Olympics that Team Canada was going to suck.
But no, we can all just shut-up and trust that the people in power always make the right decision, because that always works out well.

What fire sale is this? If we are going to ******** on about the cap dropping, I'll ******** on about the NHLPA decertifying and the cap disappearing.
OMG he so much value now there is no cap or RFA or player ownership rights. You should have made an offer earlier while your prospects where worth something. All your unsigned prospects are belong to us. And RNH is all ours in 2 years.
I doubt Anaheim would have any interest in this. They aren't into lifetime contracts and they're perfectly happy with Hiller anyway.
Agree, I think you would need more to get Anaheim to the table, besides the fact Anaheim is a team with an internal cap and two very big question marks in terms of where that goes. Taking on Lou's contract would not seem to be at the top of their priority list.

It really isn't getting through to you people is it? I'll re-state again: He was the best of a bad situation. All of Canada held their breath when he was forced to make a save.
Only 3 goalies have won an Olympic gold medal in the current century which is 12 years old? Who'da thunk it?
That's false by the way: Martin Brodeur, Curtis Joseph, Ed Belfour, Henrik Lundqvist, Mikael Tellqvist, Stefan Liv, Marc-Andre Fleury, and Bobby Lou have all won gold medals in this century, but please continue making things up.
Vancouver is the only team who would say yes to this. Two top 6/9 wingers+Mason for Luongo+Malhotra+Raymond. I think CBJ and Anaheim would say no pretty easily.

Brodeur, Ward, and at the time Fleury were all great goalies. Almost every point you have made in this thread is absurd.

Ah yes, how can I forget Mikael Tellqvist? Obviously I meant the goalies who actually, you know, played in the games, and led their teams to gold? No actually that's probably not obvious to you, my bad.
And I'm the one who's trolling? Way to avoid the rest of the post.
Stay gold, Ponyboy.
What other point?? lol That you think you're an anarchist? Well, you're not. You absorb your information as much as most people - perhaps not from certain authority figures, but the media is one of the most influential authority figures there is. And they've told you 'Luongo BAADD!" And you've obeyed this message to the point where his medals, accomplishments, records, and most importantly, entire lifetime of objective statistics are completely ignored by you in favour of a completely baseless opinion.
I like how Canucks fans think all will be peachy if Lu stays. Ever hear of pride? Lu knows damn well that he is good enough to be a good starter in this league, I don't see how a professional athlete can let himself be held back just because he's a nice guy and knows the team. It has to hurt Lu's ego to know he's been replaced as #1, I don't see him being fine with sitting on the bench when he still has the ability to be a star. Gillis is putting himself in a Rick Nash situation, asking too much for a player that will want out anyway with a huge contract, my bet is as soon as the lockout ends, Luongo is traded for the best offer they can get, which won't include Bjugstad, let alone numerous top assets.

come on man, we can't package Malhotra and raymond with Luo and expect to get those pieces back, even if people take an optimistic view of Raymond's potential and don't view Malhotra as a player with borderline negative value. Also doesn't Manny have a NTC, if so I doubt he would do it and I bet anihem is fine with hiller right now and is only involved so that Lou doesn't end in Columbus.
Pretty much. Luongo is better than Hiller, but not by enough to take on that contract. I like that Hiller's contract leaves the door open for guys like Gibson and Andersen to potentially steal a job in a few years.
We also have no need for defensive centers with Koivu, Bonino, and looking forward, Wagner and Rakell.

Good one, Zoolander.
Yes: It's everyone else who is wrong, not you. Media bad. SMM good.

Funny how much hindsight you're using in this. The trade listed was not those stated players to pretend otherwise is grossly unfair.
I don't think Luongo is as elite as some are making him out to be and his value is certainly hurt by the situation Vancouver is now in. But to pretend he stinks is another thing entirely.
He was picked for that Canadian team for a reason and he did deliver despite what you're implying and others are trying to paint as the picture.
He didn't deliver a Hasek performance or anything, but he came in when Brodeur faltered and got the job done. He deserves credit for that.
