There's a difference between what you'll get paid during one year (maybe less depending on how long the lockout lasts) and what you'll get paid for the remainder of your career.

It's the basic premise of every labour strike; in order to maintain or improve working conditions, refuse to do your job until an agreement can be made. Whether the players decide they want or need to supplement their income during this time is up to them.
