Canucks offence in 2003 vs 2013

So we've rated and analyzed the d from the 2003 and 2013 so what about the forward core? And don't worry there will not be another thread comparing Cloutier/Hedberg vs Schneider/Luongo...

2013

Kassian Sedin Sedin
Booth Kesler Raymond
Burrows Schroeder Hansen
Weise Malhotra Higgins

Volpatti Lapierre Ebbett

2003

Naslund Morrison Bertuzzi
Sedin Sedin King
Cooke Linden Keane
Ruutu Chubarov May

Arvedson S Pronger

2003 has a better, more dynamic top line but zero scoring depth. Holding true to my philosophy, I take the better depth.

BTW, I think the word you are looking for is "forward core" and not "offense".

Naslund and Bert never had point totals as high as Daniel and Henrik. Bertuzzi was only Bertuzzi for about 18 months.

Twins were barely 2nd line players. Imagine that team with how the twins are now

Well ya. The WCE would be the 2nd line then

Offensively the 2013 team wins hands down. Your looking at 2 point a game guys if not better and a plethora of 2nd-3rd line tweeners with selke center capable of scoring goals. While 2003 had 2 point a game guys at best 3 2nd liners(Morrison and the sedins) and the rest of the team was composed of lower end 3rd n 4th line players in terms of offense.

however, I like the look of the 2003 roster, it just feels safer in the bottom 6 having guys like linden, chubarov, Cooke, Keane and may. they all knew thier roles and played them to a tee and i still believe if they had a goalie of loungos caliber it could've gone a lot farther into the playoffs.

Yes, but it is from 2013 and 2003 exclusively for those years I think, and I picked 2013 anyway.

If the Sedins were barely 2nd liners (not disagreeing) then playing them with Jason King was like putting wooden tires on a Pinto.

So far neither in 2013 neither Sedin is a PPG, and it's not clear they will be. Kesler is also a huge question mark for 2013. Unless we're also going to mix-and-match the best pieces of WCE from over the years, IMO those need to be taken into account in a year to year comparison.

If they were 1st line material I bet you anything the Canucks would have one a Stanley Cup around that time. Oh well lets be proud Vancouver is on the cup (Millionaires)

The two best lines/combos (tough to include Kassian in that, but I mean the Sedins) in our team's history go head to head. Tough to call a winner there.

For the second line, you'd think Sedins at first blush, but at the time I think they were worse than Kesler is now. King was a flash in the pan, so edge to 2013 here.

The third line is tough to call as well. Linden is much better than Schroeder at the 3rd line position, but Burrows is much, much better than Cooke and Hansen is better than Keane (at the time). Call it a draw?

I prefer the 2003 4th line for that role. Ruutu was an absolute beaut, May is one of my favourite Canucks, and Chubarov was gone too soon. The 2013 guys definitely have a shot, more of a matter of preference.

All in all, a much closer comparison than I would have originally thought. I think I take 2013 by a hair, but it's close!

Looking back in on that 2003 team, if AV was coaching that team, Matt Cooke would have been the obvious linemate for the Sedins.

Works hard, underrated offensively, quick as a heck and unbeatable in the corners.

Send some of our team back to 2003 where there's no salary cap...

2013 D. Sedin - 2013 H. Sedin - Kassian
Naslund - Kesler - Bertuzzi
Burrows - Higgins - Hansen
Cooke - Linden - Ruutu
Chubarov

Let's sweep the Devils in 3

Hard to believe that Clout is long gone and Hedberg is still playing.
