Who are some actors/actresses whose career has declined?

I noticed that a lot of A-list actors/box office stars from the 90s are gone from the mainstream and hardly do any work nowadays or haven't had a box office hit in a long time.

Actors like Jim Carrey, Adam Sandler, Nicolas Cage, John Travolta, and so on.

The only actor from the 90s I can think of who's still doing well is Tom Hanks. He seems to made a return to the spotlight with his performance in Captain Phillips.

For John Travolta, I think his career took a hit when he did Battlefield Earth.

I never understood why Jim Carrey doesn't make more hits? Did he star in any box office bombs I'm not aware of?

Can you think of any actors who's career has declined?

All those actors and actresses who had setbacks by appearing in Showgirls; Kyle MacLachlan in particular.

Jim Carrey and Steve Carell did that Burt Wonderstone movie and that flopped pretty hard. Don't remember if it was actually a bad movie or not though.

Adam Sandler is far from being in decline, his last movie made + $200 Mil got a new movie coming up (Guaranteed 100 M at least) , plus 2 dramas.

Jim Carrey took a break, he is back with Dumb and dumber 2

John Travolta, his son died so I guess he was not very focused plus his other issues don’t help

Actors over 70s (Pacino, de Niro, Hoffman) I dont expect them to still be on their prime thats absurd. And in 90s actor thats still doing well you forgot Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Leo, Denzel, Sandra Bullock and possibly Will Smith.

To answer your question I think Cuba Gooding Jr (where is he ), Mel Gibson, Martin Lawrence, Julia Roberts, Jodie Foster possibly Robin Williams

I do think Sandler should just stop with comedies for now, start focusing on more serious roles, I think it could really help him out.

This thread screams Halle Berry. Had a career year with Monster's Ball and then came out with Catwoman.

Jim Carrey's a good call
John Cusack

As far as actresses go, I don't remember the last thing Meg Ryan did.

Especially for women, I think it is often a factor of age. Once an actress hits middle age, parts start to really dry up unless you are someone like Meryl Streep, Helen Mirren or a few other exceptions, Sandra Bullock, maybe, Judy Dench, for sure. But look at Julia Roberts, Michelle Pfieffer, Uma Thurman, Halle Berry, Meg Ryan, Faye Dunaway, et al,--they seem to fall off the face of the earth. Whereas male stars like Clint Eastwood, Harrison Ford and Mel Gibson were still playing leads with at least some romantic overtones well into their 60s, their female contemporaries are usually on the sidelines a decade or, more likely, two decades before them.

OP: Regarding John Travolta, I loved the movie From Paris With Love so I would say he has that on his belt. Other than that I don't remember him in anything other than Wild Hogs which was blah.

Haley Joel Osment fell off the map. He had some unreal talent as a kid, but I guess he didn't age too well looks wise. Still young though, only born in '88, but I doubt he'll ever be a star again. I'm sure part of it is voluntary too, he might've just wanted a normal life and breaks from acting.

his star turn as Winston in the "Spoils of Babylon" will resurrect his career though.

also, Thora Birch's dad is allegedly quite difficult to deal with and is her rep so that has hindered her career.

Young stars either evolve a la Leonardo DiCaprio (I think he used to be a quite poor actor, but he gives a lot of great performances now) or you don't evolve and you go the way of Josh Hartnett.

John Travolta's career right before Pulp Fiction was nothing. It's much stronger now than it was then.
