I don't care about wins, I care about player development. I don't want Huge Jessimen getting ice time, I want Mark Stone to get ice time. Is that really unreasonable?
Well, the Binghamton Senators coaching staff wants to win. Is that so unreasonable?

Absolutely not. This is just one of the cases where I think more ice time could have been detrimental to Stone. He was having a crappy game, he just needs to regroup for next game.

i'd think sens fans would have learnt from the calder cup run that winning is very, very good for development.
If Luke sandbags stone all year, it's a different story, but reducing his icetime in the third period of one game isnt a big deal.
Nice seeing Stone out there to close out the game. If he can't be a scorer in the NHL, he has the smarts to play solid defense (Shaun Van Allen kinda player).

Should have it easy then. all he has to do is outplay Jessiman.
Richardson shortened the bench. He didn't bench Stone. Stone had at least 3 shifts in that 3rd. He'll have to earn his ice time. Nothing wrong with that IMO. A bunch of top prospects like Pageau, Zibanejad, Silfverberg, Boro, Claesson, Hoffman, Lehner had a big positive impact on the game, so don't dwell on one guy having a so-so debut in a new league.

This.
Sometimes, the worst things you can do to a young guy is overload him with ice time and responsibility if he's not ready for it yet. Sets a bad precedent about earning your ice-time at a young age when habits are still developing, and if you consistently set a player up to fail, it can create confidence issues.
If Stone is really the prospect a lot of us think he is, he's more than capable of earning his ice-time. If we see over the next couple of months that he can't honestly earn AHL ice time as the season progresses, that's a much bigger issue than a coach benching him for 1/3 of one game.

Absolutely agree.
We have so many high-end prospects on this team, it's almost a guarantee that one of us is going to be disappointed every game. Zibanejad, Silfverberg, Pageau, Stone, Hoffman, Petersson, DaCosta, Cowen, Borowiecki, Lehner, and Bishop all can't have great games every game. Not enough pucks to go around. Someone is going to have an off night every game strictly due to the prospect depth this team has. We can't get up in arms every game-night when it happens, unless a pattern emerges and it happens consistently to the same guy.
Stone was alright - he needs to play with a guy like De Costa who can carry the puck through neutral ice and get it to him in the zone - he looks faster than last year (I know it's the AHL) but he can actually close on guys which he couldn't do last year in his NHL game

Everyone looks faster in Bingo because the rink is so ****'ing small.
