Am looking at the above map and trying to figure out where a "significant development parcel" might exist; maybe the former MPIC parking lot (across from Eaton Place)?
#baffled
I think your guess is probably right. I know their were multiple parties proposing significant development plans for the MPCI lot and someone probably closed the deal.
Maybe Fortress is in on that? I'm not sure what the boundaries of the SHED are - would the Carlton Inn be in the zone? Edit: Yes, I see that it is...there's some prime real estate for redevelopment. That Dollarama building on Portage next to MEC?
I know it comes up from time to time, but just have to say again, man Longboat is sure in on everything downtown.
You really have to hand it to those guys (Chipman, Ludlow, etc), for their vision, and their decision to go all in on downtown Winnipeg. I would love to see a list at some point of all the Longboat / TNSE holdings. Pretty impressive.

It's so god damn boring without hockey. Listening to the IceCaps and catching a stream or two is alright, but it doesn't beat the thrill of seeing your team rush up the ice and pot the puck behind the goaltender.

Yeah, the last few weeks it's really starting to get to me. Last time there was a lockout I was still only 16 playing AAA hockey 5-7 times a week, not too mention the rest of things to do at 16 ...now it's just annoying to have nothing at all to do every night, other than study (and I mean screw that ). Really growing restless, and upset not having a hockey game to put on. I have no problem watching any two NHL teams play, it's a welcome distraction, I am so bored every night.

Definitely on the short list of my most favorite Jets memories of last year. It was quite cathartic seeing the Jets thump Florida after that one particular drubbing by Detroit, 6-1.
Here is the PR from the new project proposed to go up in the downtown area...
Quote:
A major Ontario developer has purchased a parcel of land in downtown Winnipeg and plans to build two high-rise commercial/residential towers on the site as part of an estimated $80-million development.
(...) All Vince Petrozza would say is it's a parking lot, it's "centrally located in the downtown" and "it's really a prime property."
...
He also wouldn't reveal where the property is located, other than to say it's not within CentreVenture's proposed Sports, Hospitality and Entertainment District (SHED). That 12-block area includes the MTS Centre, the Winnipeg Convention Centre, the Walker Theatre and the redeveloped Metropolitan Theatre, which officially reopened Friday as the Met Entertainment Centre.
So that would rule out the parking lot next to the Tavern.
Awesome game. Beautiful throw by McCarron for the TD just now.
Yea he really laid it in perfectly. That was just a great game!! Bama has won a couple of those types this year.........should be a high profile national title game against Notre Dame. Talk about original 6 type historic matchup
