He'll be playing for the worst team of the KHL.

I like what he's doing. Instead of joining a stacked team that's going to pay him a crap load he's joining the worst team in the league to try and help them out. Honourable.

As the lockout continues, and more North American players start to sing elsewhere, I get the feeling Kessel wouldn't play overseas if the lock out lasted 5 years Phil is my favourite Leaf, not hating.

Good for you Loops. The more the better.

At least the city looks decent:

Good on Lupul though. Wish him luck.

Phil the thrill is just chilling out. I wonder what shape he'll be in if the activity in the NHL resumes any time soon.

Phil is skating and working out.

He'll be in decent physical condition but could have a bit of rust in terms of manual dexterity, but that can be shaken off after a few games.

That being said, everyone is prepared for a season long lockout.

Well at least he's playing and getting in game shape.

It should also be an easy transition for Lupes, based on the team he is coming from and joining.

Knowing the way Phil loves the game, I'm surprised he's been able to stay away from the game this long. Must get boring working out every day.

Yep, they won't be taking money from the war chest while they're earning in Europe. Players that need to will dip into the pot.

Desjardins estimates that about 40% of the game is captured by Corsi analysis.

Lupul needs to try to get Kessel and whoever else he is close with to sign with Yekaterinburg. Too many Leafs aren't playing, especially our best players. Yes, I know they are skating, working out and all that, but as fans I'm sure we want them to stay in game shape. And also if Yekaterinburg has interest, of course.

Considering Lupul's season ended early because of his wrist injury at least he's going to play somewhere so he can get back in game shape whenever the lockout does end.

The thing to remember is that not everybody is comfortable living in a completely foreign country. This not like going from Canada to the US or vice versa.

How do you know that those stacked and rich teams even wanted him? Lupul has quickly become a Leafs favourite and I do like the guy, but let's be realistic. He doesn't have the accolades, stats nor has he been a picture of health throughout his career - It's just as must possible that his decision was not one of honour but one of limited options.

I just hope he doesn't get hurt.

Edit: TSN reports that he could start playing as early as this weekend.
