Another helper for Barkov. Too bad he had that one scoreless game, would be on a 12 game point streak already. 13 points in 12 games since WJC, still 2 periods to go in today's match.

Barkov has now most points before draft year FEL in alltime. Same point's than Jokinen, but more goals and Jokinen was almost 1 year older in same time. Congrats!

Would be cool to see him in the WHC but I doubt we see him.

Well, with today's rankings and where Barkov sits, looks like the Oilers may draft him afterall. Looks like they'll be drafting around 7th overall so getting Barkov will be a nice gift.

Don't know where Oilers draft, but he won't drop out of 3-5.

Considering how many games Tappara have won by allowing 0-1 goals after the New Year, it would have been something for him to get a minus.

Yes, they are almost all in + but Barkov don't have none -games. Nieminen has 1 - game, Connolly 2, Koskiranta 2, Erkinjuntti 1, Leimu 2 and Mäntylä 2 -games in same period.

Only assist? Why no score?

This is why he's numero 7 right now

So if his skating is a weakness what are his strengths?

Matti Virmanen said that there were ~40 scouts in attendance tonight.

Barkov had really good game. Over 20 minutes of icetime, assist and perfect defensive game. One of the best players on the ice.

9th in points with 41P
7th in goals with 19G
4th in +/- with 17+
8th in TOI as fowards with 19.25

He missed many games because of WJC. One of the best players in the league. If he has offensive burst in the end i could see him contend for MVP of the league. Not likely but possible. If he finishes top 5 in points, goals and leads the +/- i could see that being possible. Not too bad for 17 year old. In last poll he was 2nd in league MVP race.

The game was pretty much "meh" from just about everyone, not really surprising considering Tappara hadn't played in 13 days. Tappara was obviously the better team, though. Barkov had some nice scoring chances and played a good overall game. Nothing extremely impressive, but overall solid. Good defensive work, good work in faceoff circle, etc. He does a lot of small things right. What sets him apart from prospects like Granlund is that he doesn't try to slow down the game nearly as much, but can actually act fast in a small space.

Congrats on finally making my "ignored users" list. You've got good company there.

He seems awesome, but his coming from Finland scares me. The last first round skater that made it was Pitkanen in 2002, and he had his share of issues with the team that drafted him.

EDIT: Forgot about Korpikoski. Finnish hockey has still been disappointing.

Pretty much only thing that those players have in common with Barkov is that they are from Finland.

C, has size, excellent hockey IQ.

How about Mikael Granlund?

Well, he really hasn't made it yet. At least to the level that we know he can be/what he is expected to become.

Your personal expectations don't really matter though, have to think about this objectively. He's missed one game thus far and has made it

Barkov's nationality is irrelevant. Nationality shouldn't really ever be a concern, but if it is, it is usually because of potential contract issues, or said player being in a perceived weak league.

Barkov plays in a good league, producing outstanding numbers, has excellent puck skills and vision, great frame, good shot, good in all 3 zones and has improving speed. This is what matters. Not that Lauri Tukonen was Finnish and drafted in the 1st round 8+ years ago

He has played only 13 games in the NHL. I wouldn't call that "making it" yet.

He's promising, but hasn't really made it yet. He only has 13 games under his belt, and is still

It's not so much his nationality, as much as it is the hockey program in Finland no longer developing top players. I agree that Barkov looks good from what I've seen, but so did some other Finnish players that never made it. Maybe some things things they are teaching kids in Finland don't translate to higher levels of play

So just because there is a gap between 2004-10 it's impossible for Finland to produce early 1st round picks/skaters anymore, ever? Game over?
