Which defense would you choose?

I was thinking about this the other day with my brother who is a Bucs fan. He worships their 02 D (and rightfully so). So it got me thinking. How does their 02 team fare against say the 00 Ravens D and the 85 Bears D??

00 Ravens- Went 12-4,posted 4 shutouts,In 4 playoff wins they gave up 3,10,3,7.Over the course of the season they held opponents to a average score of 10.3 ppg. Went 12-4.

02 Bucs- They became the second team ever too lead the NFl in total defense, points allowed, and interceptions. In four straight games the D scored TD's and during that season Tampa held opponents too 10 or fewer points 9 times.Went 12-4.

85 Bears- Held opponents to 10 or fewer points 7 times. Pitched shutouts the Divisional and Conference rounds. Held the Patriots to 10 points in the Superbowl. Went 15-1.

So what are your guys thoughts. Who would you take. Feel free to make cases for other All time great defense's.

If Montana or Marino is QB ,, Anyone not named 1985 Bears

Montana totally owned them in his career and Marino/Shula were the team that began the downfall of system

Not the fault of team but the Ravens D really went up againt some lackluster QB's during there season ,, Sorta overhypes there accomplishment

All these D's would struggle with todays flag football rules

Bears 85 D would have faced hefty fines/suspensions especially the hit on Joe Ferguson at 2:19

(My god what an awful song ,, Yikes really what awful song for that vid)

IMO the Bears 86 postseason run is still most dominant IMO when looking at some of the talent they went up against in that playoff

Ravens holding teams to 10.3 points/game for a whole season is beyond ridiculous. Also, the Ravens defence didn't allow any points in the superbowl, the lone Giants TD was scored on a kick return.

The Ravens D was so good Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl. I know the other teams didn't have elite quarterbacks...but we're talking about Trent Dilfer here (yes I'm aware they had a killer running game...but still...Trent MF'ing Dilfer.)

2- Yes I'm still bitter

But I should be more angry at good old Callahan for not changing his offensive game plan.

I just took a look at the box score between the Ravens and Titans that year, the Ravens only had 135 total yards and 85 net passing and still scored 24 points . That's what great special teams and Ray Lewis will do for you.

If I recall correctly, the Ravens had something like a four-game win streak where the offense failed to score a single touchdown.

Comparing it to the pre-cap Bears is unfair. No team can stockpile talent like that any more. In the cap era, nothing can touch that 00 Ravens team.

the 99 Jaguars. One of the best defensive units in league history. Still bothers me that that Super Bowl was between St. Louis and Tennessee when it should've been, if not for the Bert Emanuel nonsense and one bad play call by Coughlin, Jacksonville and Tampa Bay.

But given the 3 options available, the 02 Bucs

When you lose to the same team 3 times in the year, I think it's fair to say that, at the very least, they have your number and it's unlucky. But really, Titans were just the better team. Showed us that literally all year.

I remember watching that divisional game against the Dolphins.62-7.. Marino was 11-for-25 for 95 yards, with two picks and sacked Five times in his Swansong.

Needless to say as a Bills fan it was interesting to say the least(then I remember the week before with what happened with us in the Music City and I die alittle inside).

That Jags unit was deadly but I dont know the Stats that season to back up that statement.

There have been a lot of good defenses over the years, but never have I heard the 99 Jags put on the same plateau as the 00 Ravens or 85 Bears.

As for Marino, that isn't very impressive at all. That was the last game of his career. He was 38 years old, had 5 more INTs than TDs that year and a QB rating under 70. That a bad QB would do bad against a good defense isn't impressive. It is expected.

One of the reason I remember how bad he was is that the Vikings were doing everything they could to lure him away from retirement and replace George.
