Hold off on the 2 yr rookie contract news until other guys report that. That makes little sense. Rookies always get jobbed in CBAs.

Term limits should be 7 years. 5 years is actually too short if you can believe it.

UFA should be shorter also. 28? That's a bit long in the tooth to finally be getting complete freedom over your career.

Not too happy about NHL contracts counting in the AHL too... but, at least progress is being made.

If they plan on just adding on the cancelled games at the end of the year the Rangers get screwed hard. 12 of the last 14 would be on the road.

As happy as I am that a deal appears to be getting close, I'm gonna be honest - talk about a 57-62M cap next season makes me pretty nervous as a Ranger fan. Especially if that now is gonna include some AHL $.

Guess in a way it was inevitable. But still.

Has anyone heard if the new CBA address the realignment of divisions? Or is that something that isn't part of this.

Have not heard anything. Doesn't mean it's not in there though.

The new NHL proposal is very fair. It should provide for a very solid starting point for a deal to be made.

I'm hoping something will get done by the end of the week, but I have a feeling it will be done at the 11th hour on the apparent October 25th deadline, if at all.

@DarrenDreger: NHLPA conf call has ended. Nothing certain, but a counter proposal is expected in next 24-48 hrs.

As we discussed on TSN's Sportscentre, NHL proposal includes the potential for retaining salary in trades.
Pressures from sponsors helped move this process along.

My sources say NHL felt fair bit of pressure from TV partners and major sponsors to get ball rolling again. NBCSN real worried about it

The ball is officially rolling. Good news to hear. Lets just hope they don't make some outlandish proposal to **** things up.

Told by an NHL player that the NHLPA will be making a counter proposal in the next day or two.

Initial reaction from players is not great. They still see themselves losing on revenue split and contract terms. Want more info on...

Elliotte Friedman ‏@FriedgeHNIC
revenue-sharing formula. Also concerned about escrow for next year even with any losses guaranteed as a deferral.

One issue pointed out: Entry-level deals: 2yrs. Max contract: 5 yrs. No free agency until after 8 yrs. That really clamps on 2nd contracts.
https://twitter.com/FriedgeHNIC/stat...46038174302208

What about salary arbitration? That doesn't escalate 2nd contracts?

I think, from a Rangers fan perspective, we are better off with 10-20 fewer games this year.

I don't want to play too abbreviated a season, but the closer the season holds off until December, the better, IMO, since that is when Gaborik is back.

Plus, we're coming off an extended playoff run where we had a lot of guys playing heavier-than-usual minutes, and we played a grueling shot-blocking style of play that put on extra wear and tear.

If they only had a 70 game season that started mid-November, I'd say that would actually be better for the Rangers this year.

But hey, I don't want to miss a season. I'll take a full schedule starting Nov. 2 over none at all, or over a season that doesn't start till February and only plays 40 games.

A big step in the right direction. It would be awesome if they managed to play an 82 game season.

Why would the PA want a shorter deal?
