The AHL doesn't keep even half the stats on their official website that the NHL does. Very disappointing.

So I guess Skinner isn't playing for them after all?

nah, kind of strange situation. They announced he'd be playing in the AHL this year, but he hasn't reported to Charlotte yet. Apparently the Hurricanes are alright with this decision. Nobody is sure if or when he'll actually get down there and start playing games.

*Just looking at the players on the Charlotte / Carolina roster, this will likely be a tougher matchup for the Stars than San Antonio was. They have quite a few players with NHL depth experience even without Skinner.

So he's like, "Thanks for the 6 year 34 million dollar contract guys, I'll be doing what I want now" ?

While there's rumours of lingering concussion from last season, this wouldn't surprise me either. He's always come off a bit spoiled.

Found a quote from the Canes GM:
"The decision was made that Jeff could go to Charlotte at some point in time but not necessarily at this time," Rutherford said.

Two weeks ago, Rutherford said Skinner would be reporting to training camp and would play in AHL games for the Checkers.

"I should have said he could go, not that he would go," Rutherford said.
Weird. Don't usually hear a GM publicly backtracking like that.

I wasn't really aware that Skinner was concussed. He played in Carolina's last game of the season.

Wasn't he injured like in the middle of the season? That's the only injury I remember him getting.

Rutherford noted that Skinner's concussion last season, which caused him to miss 16 games, factored into the decision to allow him to stay in Toronto.

"It didn't make much sense for Jeff to play in preseason games and the Checkers unfortunately play a lot of games on the road to start the season," Rutherford said. "All of those things factored into the course we took."

100 Degree Hockey noted that Austin didn't have a very good pre-season ... struggling in the first games. He did say Austin played better in the final game.

Glennie ... wow. The report I read made it seem like his late arrival was excused so this is likely a result of his play rather than punishment.

.... I almost would rather he was getting punished for being immature and late than him just not being good enough to beat out 4 undrafted players: Hedden, Roussel, Tousignant, and Vause.

Campbell won over that Austin/Cedar Park crowd in a hurry. Huge response to him being on the video screen. I'm glad they saved him to start in front of this crowd .... they really love him.
