Interesting to note that his contact with the rangers has been limited to phone calls and emails... you would think a second round would get a little more attention.

That was a question I was going to ask, actually. How much contact is normal with an important prospect? Anyone have any idea if the Rangers tend to stay more or less in contact than other teams?

To Jeff, Guy, or anyone who has seen him play,

What are your opinions of Baranka, and what upside do you see him having?

Because he's a good skater and has good reach he keeps on top of his man at all times, very hard to get by him one on one. Very good hockey sense, doesn't panic with the puck. Good shot, not great, his real offensive strength is his first pass/speed on the breakout. He also has a decent shot from the point, low & accurate. 6'2 190, strong legs, needs more upper body development.

he is a prospect I am really excited about, it sounds like he has a legitimate chance to be a solid NHL D-man, which is great if you consider we already have Tyutin, Rachunek, and possibly Kondrietiov or however you spell his name.

baranka is over shadowed here in Everett. I don't think he gets the respect he deserves, but he is a great player, really brings excitment onto the ice. he gained that 20 pounds the rangers commented on, and he's ready to go. I'm VERY excited to see him play in '06 (HOPEFULLY!!)

The comments above from other posters are acurrate. I really liked the fact that he s very poised on the ice in all situations. He is not flashy but a very smart and tactical player. He is extremely good on the breakout and very effective getting the Silvertips attack going. He did show much offensive flair which led me to believe that he didn't want to get over commited that night against a formidable oppenent in Seattle.

From what I gathered, he's on the fast track with the Rangers. It's all there. However, like one poster mentioned, it wouldn't hurt him to gain a little more upper body strength. He is already effective in the WHL because of the size differential but the pros are another story. He's aware of that and said he is addressing it.

Hey Jeff, is Ivan playing left or right side defense this year? I know he's left handed and played the left side last year when i saw him, still the same?

oh man, im very excited about this kid. I've always been high on him since we took him in the draft, but now im even more pumped. As i've said before, we are stacked with 'D' prospects that have a great shot at being good to very good in the NHL.

Nice thanks.

We have alot of left handed prospects on defense, a few might have to learn the right side eventually.
