Johnny Football takes it as expected... Rooted for Te'o, but maybe the best man won tonight.

HeisManziel

So insanely happy right now. Nothing but a NC could make me happier.

Jesus that was close. Te'o had more points than most winners have.

Gonna be cool to see if Manziel can win it again.

I think he can do it. Hell, I think we can win a NC with him.

Evans and possibly RSJ at WR with him... Brandon and Tre Williams at RB... Loads of talent all over the depth chart on D, and with Sumlin coaching, I think we can do anything. 8 points (1 score) is all that kept us out of the SEC title game and an undefeated season this year.

I don't really like the idea a freshman won it. Just rubs me the wrong way.

Should just give it to Te'o because he's an upperclassman! Never mind that Manziel was clearly more talented!

Only upperclassmen can win Heismans

I like the idea of it being something culminating, like a crowning achievement of a college career. Win the Heisman, go to the pros.

Manziel will struggle to win it again (only one guy won it twice so they are hesitant to give it out twice due to the historic precedent) and with all this time left in his career there's plenty of time to dissect his character (he's been arrested) and level of play. I mean make no mistake, this is the easiest time ever to be a QB and put up serious stats, we see QB records broken at almost every level - so Manziel's achievement may well be overshadowed by someone else very soon. Look how Colin Klein's stock nosedived on account of one bad game. I don't know if I like the idea of "former Heisman winners" in college football especially for such an extended period of time.

Why do people call him "Football"? Are they too stupid to pronounce his last name?

Heisman = best player of individual season, career has nothing to do with it

There was no one else even in the conversation but Manziel

Could say T'eo but defensive players have only won it once so let's be honest, it was all Manziel and all Johnny Football

This is along the line of reasoning ppl had for Manning in 1997 when Woodson edged him out.

Given that Suh didn't win it (he's a POS btw) and had one of the most dominating seasons for a defensive tackle in a while, neither did Sapp and Woodson was more of a KR/DB, can we just name it the Best Offensive Player of the Year Award.

No kicker, punter, lineman is going to win it. And the DB/LB who wins it, will need to score like 12 TDs to do so.

So far;

1 Cornerback/Punt Returner (1997)
2 ends (a position not in football anymore)
3 fullbacks (the last one that one was in 1969)
19 Half Backs won it (Funny enough one was a Linebacker/Fullback combination and another a Punter)
30 QBs
20 Running Backs
3 Wide Receivers

1 defensive player and he was a hybrid.

Let's just call a spade a space and say it's the best offensive player of the year award.

Glad Johnny won. Well deserved. I still can't believe Te'o came that close to winning though.

It was nice see at least some voters recognize Miller and Lee too.

Im quite shocked they gave it to a freshman. Other Freshman have been more deserving and should have won too (Peterson and Walker come to mind), but good for him. Braxton Miller, TJ Yeldon, or Todd Gurley will win it next year imo.

Congrats to Johnny Football

Hopefully Clowney can win it next year, but if Te'o can't win as one of the best LBers in the nation on an undefeated Notre Dame team, no way Clowney wins it as a DE on a SC team with 2-3 losses.

Only QBs and RBs can put up the stats to overcome multiple losses in their teams resume.

Manziel deserved it this year though, breaking Tebow's and Newton's records as a freshman? Ridiculous. Thank god A&M becomes SC's permanent SEC west opponent for what will probably be Manziel's last year
