Ya, it's time to load up on forwards. Remember when we had no defencemen in the system and we had wingers coming out of our ears? Exact opposite now, and Lou needs to get on it.
Seems like a recycled article from 2012, 2011....2010:

The good news is there’s some high-end young talent available in the 2013 NHL draft – Nathan MacKinnon, Seth Jones and Jonathan Drouin at the head of the class – for the bottom-feeders to feast on. The bad news? Contrary to popular belief, the 2013 draft isn’t nearly as deep as scouts initially projected the past couple of seasons.
I still think this draft is deeper than 2011, and much deeper than 2012. Brady Skjei should never have sniffed a 1st round in a normal year. Same with Matteau, although he has progressed very well and exceeded my expectations from his play last year.
The league hasn’t made a final decision yet but all signs point to a June 30 NHL draft, a one-day event with every single round completed in one Sunday. It’s not ideal, but again the compressed nature of June has left the league with few options, especially with the start of free agency commencing July 5 this year.
Frederik Gauthier is starting to grow on me. He'd be a real solid pick and kind of reminds me of Zajac a little. If he can slide, I'd take him in a heartbeat.
Just for fun, I took a look at a mock draft and they have us taking Curtis Lazar with the 29th overall pick. The Blue Jackets are leaving that draft like bandits with the #2 and #3 overall picks wich got them the "Halifax duo" of MacKinnon and Drouin.
That would be unreal for that franchise, actually hope it happens.

I was going to post a premature mock as well, but the standings are still very much fluid by the day. I expect the Kings to start picking up some steam which would push that Columbus pick lower.
With the hiring of Jarmo Kekalainen, I'm curious to see if he might be tempted to take Alexander Barkov over MacKinnon. Albeit Kekalainen already said he might be biased against Finnish players.

If the Kings finish near the bottom, it'll be so sweat to see Columbus at the podium with their pick but like you said, I doubt it'll happen.
Regardin Lazar, his stock has dropped in the past couple of months and I just wanted to get your pov on him. I think he can be a solid pick for us if he does drop in the mid to late 20's. His production isn't all that great this year but I think he's a very well rounded hockey player.
With the way Lou is trading picks recently, this thread may become irrelevant.
It would have been amusing to see what the Islanders would have done last year had Columbus accepted their Ditka-esque trade offer (entire draft for #2). I would have been amused if their entire contingent just got up and left after the pick.
Impressive but what a nice way to ruin great highlights with some bumping techno music ****. I knew from the 1st second where it's coming from.
Russians can't stop to put these songs in their hockey videos. Tchaikovsky must be turning in his grave.
