The price tag would be to high for TO....talk to the Oilers, Schnieder would be ideal with their young core.

This is why I wish the Oilers were in a different division. They would make ideal trading partners for either goalie.

I'm not sure how much interest they'd have in Luongo....but Schnieder would fit them like a glove.

Luongo can serve as a veteran presence while their youngsters develop. Maybe steal some games and get them into the playoffs?

Oh, i agree. That seems to be Burke's exact wish. I just think, given the choice. Edmonton goes for the young stud as it matches their core to a "T".

I hope a deal with Toronto goes; the more Canadian teams in the playoffs, the better. I just don't see Burke giving up enough to get Luongo.

I guess it depends on a few things...is FLA a player? Does Gillis really want Lu gone?

If I remember correctly, his shooting percentage was way over his career shooting percentage. I'm not sure he'll be able to maintain that next season. If we're going to shoot for the moon, I want more

I might feel different if he didn't have a $6 million cap hit (after the final year of his current deal runs out) - IMHO, too much a risk because of that.

I doubt it's even that complex.

Basically Luongo has the optimal combination of the biggest name, biggest, longest term, cap manipulatingest contract signed with the team with the biggest following (especially amongst TSN viewers/readers).

All the rest play for American teams and the only contract substantially worse (in terms of manipulating the cap hit) than Luongo's is Ilya Kovalchuks but since NJ is basically the witness protection program and the Canucks are actively looking to deal Luongo, the choice is clear.

Basically, focus on Luongo and you've got a pre-made discussion going already. There's no storyling around Kovalchuk or Zetterberg or Hossa.

MG would do that for sure. Eberle is by far the best player on the Oilers, and one of the best young players in the NHL.

That's quite the statement you've made there.

He's also wrong. Mike Gillis actually knows when to spot players that are having unsustainable shooting percentages and knows Edmonton has better players. The salary would also make him hesitant.

That said, Eberle would still be a fine return.

Eberle is clutch too. Something that only Alex Burrows has been for us.

This. Eberle had a great season last year but I'm just not sold on him maintaining that output going forward.

Schneider+ for whichever of the 1st overalls they value least (probably Yakupov) would be my price.

Luongo is more proven, but Schneider has potential. Schneider probably has more value because his contract doesn't bring problems with him, and he's likely a better fir then Luongo on say the Leafs, Panthers.

Still would rather trade Luongo, even if Schneider did have more value.

You guys read the article on Luongo already being traded to Leafs and just waiting for new CBA ? Popped over here to see what was being said over here.

Good to see some people are reasonable and don't expect the trade (If it was to be true) to involve Gardiner... Couldn't see him leaving unless it was for an elite centerman, and even in just the couple AHL games so far his skating/control has blown me away.

Could see a package of NHL defenseman (Franson anyone?), Goalie (Scrivens or Reimer?), and a mid ranking prospect from the A (Blacker, Deschamps, maybe Frattin)

I don't think Toronto desperately needs a goalie, and Burke is far from being fired if he doesn't grab a goalie this year, as the fruit of his labour is just starting to bloom, and will start to show in the next year.

Luongo would be a good addition for a push, and playoffs would be nice, but I'd rather get a good pick in this draft to be honest.. and the first from this year ain't going anywhere that's for sure !
