My brother email me his new CD (He is a jazz player) and all the files are in flac--something I have never dealt with before--usually music comes up and plays right away

What are flac files? How do or should I play them?

seems dodgy to me

It's a lossless audio format. Basically high quality files. Nothing dodgy at all. Simply use google to find a suitable player.

Could likely just download a codec for whatever player you're using.

Use Musicbee or foobar2k to play them, the quality is much better. It's worth it.

I prefer musicbee because it's so much easier to set up.

FLAC is worth it if you have a good headphone set up

A really good headphone setup. Most people can't tell the difference between a V0 MP3 and FLAC.
