i love Drew Brees, such a likeable guy with a great story. i mean he developed a hall of fame career out of impeccable work ethic and intelligence, with limited (in comparson to other QB's) physical gifts. top of the line human being, i find it very hard to cheer against him.

His advocacy for New Orleans after Katrina is pretty cool too. It's easy to like him.

i lost a lot of respect for the whole saints team after the superbowl, even if brees had nothing to do with sean payton stealing drugs from the training room or the whole bounty scandal thing. Ruined the whole feel good story for me.

Jay Glazer is reporting a Chiefs player got shot at their facility. He doesn't want to reveal the name until the family knows.

Scary situation in KC right now as a player and another person have been shot at the Chiefs facility. Don't want to reveal player until his family knows

Now it's being reported that the Chiefs player killed his gf then himself. Awful stuff if true.

apparently its Jovan Belcher. someone already got to his wikipedia page about this too.
Quote:
Death

Belcher allegedly shot and killed his girlfreind over an argument about ketchup. His girlfriend allegedly served him Heinz ketchup with his fries instead of Sir Kensington's Gourmet Scooping Ketchup. In a fit of raged for being served 'poverty' ketchup, Belcher shot and killed his girlfriend before driving to the team's training facility and committing suicide.
so disrespectful

They are going to test this guy and find out he has all sorts of brain damage, we can bet on that.

It's still really sad to see something like this, especially when a guy does it in around his team, and kills his probably innocent girlfriend. My bet is he had some kind of psychotic break or something like that from the brain trauma...

Wouldn't shock me at all if he has brain damage. This story is eerily similar to the Chris Benoit story.

Did two people really just die over ketchup?

Even with the more than likely brain damage, wow.

Probably someone's way of being funny. It was clever, but it's not exactly the right joke for this situation...

Thank ****, I thought that was how it actually happened.

Seriously though, this has to be brain damage. You don't leave a 10 week old baby alone in the world just like that.

Apparently Belcher killed himself in front of Crennel and Pioli. Also, the gf's mother witnessed her daughter die. Just terrible news coming out of this. I don't know how they're playing this game tomorrow.

How do you expect someone to coach a game after watching a person take their own life? Christ....

You're going to find brain damage but that's no excuse. I'm willing to bet a majority of NFL players have some level of brain damage. 99% of them don't kill people.

Why are you "going to find brain damage" in the guy? You simply cannot possibly know that. Not every player has brain damage, nor a "majority of NFL players" either. This is one of those recent causes du jour that's being blown out of proportion. The guy was only 25 years old, he probably just flipped out.

KANSAS CITY, MO. (AP)
Police say Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Javon Belcher fatally shot his girlfriend early Saturday, then drove to Arrowhead Stadium and committed suicide in front of his coach and general manager.

Police spokesman Darin Snapp confirmed it was Belcher, a fourth-year player from West Babylon, N.Y., who played college ball at Maine. The woman's name has not yet been released.

Snapp said Belcher shot the woman at a Kansas City residence, then drove to the Chiefs facility. He thanked Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli and Romeo Crennel for all they had done for him, then shot himself.

The Chiefs say Sunday's home game against the Carolina Panthers will go on as scheduled.

I'm very confident that over 50% of players in the league have at least a minor form of brain damage. The game is ridiculously violent and players are beyond reckless because the body armor they wear makes them feel invincible.

Any player who has ever had a concussion has had brain damage.

Yes but not everything is game brain damage

Look no further then Alonzo Spellman (Former Bear DE) who is bipolar and once barricaded himself in a home with hostages

Or Brandon Marshall and his mental disorder

The majority of the NFL players most definitely have brain damage. Not only from their time in the league either, but from all the years prior especially college football.

But I think that if they blame this instance on brain damage that's kind of a cop out.

Well, that's a definitional problem right there.

A concussion is ≠ to what is medically known as "brain damage".

In brain damage, you have actual death of substantial numbers of brain cells, and when people use that term, they generally are talking about something far more serious than a concussion. The vast majority of people who have a concussion sometime in life will not lose any motor function or experience any long-term problems. And I highly doubt > 50% of NFL players (or NHL players) have had a concussion.
