not much to talk about, but if oilers got the 1st overall pick again in 2013 nhl draft who do you think they will pick and why? Also, what would the lines be?

I will play, why not. If the draft were tomorrow I would pick MacKinnon. Here would be my future lines.

Hall - RNH - Eberle
Hemsky - MacKinnon - Yakupov
Paajarvi - Lander - Jones
??? - ??? - ???

The question marks on forward could be anything from Horcoff on his next contract, a homegrown prospect like Hamilton, or a FA. I have traded Gagner to make this my future D.

Klefbom - J. Schultz
??? - Petry
N. Schultz - Smid

Question marks would be whatever we managed to get for Gagner and Whitney. Preferably a very good second pairing D who is able to step into the first pairing and not look overwhelmed. The D is full of potential, but could easily bust and be awful. Even if they sucked, the forward core would do enough damage to make us a good team.

Alex Barkov is very intriguing. It would be a very ballsy move to take him over the likes of McKinnon and Jones but he would fit the Oilers perfectly.

I'd probably play it safe and pick McKinnon though.

Not to mention HF would rage like we've never seen.

Always BPA, which is probably MacKinnon.

Not going to happen, of course, but when Ales Hemsky is possibly your 6th best forward, then you forward group is pretty good, especially factoring in quality bottom 6-ers in Horcoff, Smyth, Jones.

Hall, RNH, Eberle, Yakupov, MacKInnon, Hemsky

Obviously take the BPA in Mackinnon but I think Seth Jones would be the perfect fit. Hall, Nuge, Ebs and Yak up front with Jones, Schultz, Klefbom, Smid and Petry in the back.

I'd take MacKinnon
However thats a pretty big if becuase if the lockout causes the season to be cancelled then the draft would be held after a new cba is agreed upon and at that point oilers will have a very small chance at 1st, if the season isn't cancelled then we should be able to finesh just out of the playoffs if we don't make it, also consider a shortend season,

Oh god. It would never happen, but I'd be over the moon if we got Mackinnon, Jones or Barkov. Any pick in the top 5 would be absolutely beauty for us.

We should try to get Columbus's pick for 2015. McDavid looks like he's really something special.

Man, I think that enraged users would be sabotaging HFboards in jealousy of 4 consecutive 1st overall picks.

What would have to happen?

1: Dubkyn regresses
2: Whitney is garbage/always hurt
3: Horcoff always hurt
4: Smid gets hurt big time.
5: Schultz isn't ready for top 4 minutes.

That would probably be enough to keep us in line for a shot at the lottery.

Hall-Hopkins-Yakupov
Hemsky-MacKinnon-Eberle
MPS-Lander-Gagner
Smyth-Horcoff-Hartikainen

Way too much firepower.

Nathan please. He's the perfect 2C or even a 1C. I really hope it does work out.

You hope that we finish last again? Are you serious?

If there is no season we may as well get a top pick. I know about the rules that the Oilers will only get a ball because of the previous draft, 2005.

Ok, that's better than what I thought. Hopefully for us the rules won't be the same as last time

Yes. If there was no season we'd be in great shape for the lottery.

Hall, Hopkins and Eberle could enjoy winning and have no complaints about the fact that we ended up with another first overall pick. If not that, a second or third overall pick would be just as sweet.

Wait a minute, should we be hoping that the whole season gets called off?

Yakupov is playing with adults in the KHL.

Klefbom continues to play with adults in Sweden.

Lander, Magnus, Schultz, Eberle, Hopkins and Hall will get to develop chemistry on a whole new level playing against weaker competition in the AHL.

Can we say that it's win/win for us if the whole season gets called off?

On top of that if the cap gets pulled back by next season we can just waive Horcoff, as his NMC will have turned into a NTC. Whitney's contract will be up and by then we'll have a good enough idea as to whether or not Scultz is for real against adults.

If Schultz truely shines this year we won't really need Whitney. Marincin could ride Scultz's thunder and end up playing in Edmonton next season, so we'd have no use for Sutton either.

At the start of next season it would be Hemsky's last chance to prove he's a veteran we need. In the likely even that we trade him or let him walk, we've cleared 17.25M in salary.

Petry-Smid
Schultz-Schultz
Marincin-???

Probably the same thing that happened if we won the 2012 lottery. The player would continue playing in their respictive CHL league team or go back home.

If the lockout continues all season, sadly I don't like the chances of landing the first overall pick, considering the Oilers only have 1 ball?

Having said that, if we could add a Seth Jones...

I don't see it happening, whether there is a season or there isn't, but unless Jones proves himself a good step above MacKinnon, I'd go for the C. We wouldn't have the biggest 1-2 punch down the middle in the league, but we'd undoubtedly have one of the best.

There would be "Do something about the draft lottery!" threads on the main boards every day.

I can't imagine more Oiler hate on the main boards than when Daly announced we lucked out on Yakupov, if they won the 2013 lottery I shudder to think.....hf would probably shut down for a while.

sure i'll play, nothing much else to do involving hockey

it's pretty hard to over look zarkov ... 6'2", 205 lbs, center and is top-5 in scoring for the finnish elite league right now... not many 17 year olds can dominate a mens league, hell, he had 16 points over 32 games in the SM-liiga as a 16 year old last year! lol.... that is an impressive package of size and skill at an important position

mackinnon would be fine as well, obviously, but i wonder if zarkov might be the better player once all the dust settles

also thought i would agree with those who have said that mcdavid looks *unreal*.... he's not very big yet (5'11") but he's only 15, so will likely grow some more still... mcdavid is around hall's 15 year old OHL PPG pace, but a little younger than hall was at the time
