If seeded by IIHF rankings Hungary is ranked 19th, Ukraine 20 and GB 21, Poland 23 and Netherlands 24.
Either way we'll know today after the games are played.
According to the wikipedia, only options are group E or group F at this point. Poland Ukraine are nearly done their game so I guess we'll know for sure for sure soon.
I donno who I'm supposed to be cheering for cuz I donno what has to happen for GB to go in Group E lol
That's awesome though, who is there to be scared of now? Stephen "KO'" De Costa (Because he gets hit a lot) and Crystalball Huet with France, maybe a goon in Ivanans and then Kaspars Daugavins for Latvia, and Nik Antropov for the Kazakhs.
At least it's close competition with these teams and hey Ben O'Connor looks like the best D-man in the Kazakhstan league right now lol

It's not just about the stars they have, their teams are overall better than us.
Come on, half the Kazakh team plays for Barys Astana...
I'm all for optimism, but in reality we'll need nothing short of a miracle to win that group. But at least we will be competitive unlike in the other groups, this is probably the best case scenario.
It doesn't matter who you play. In April Japan beat GB 5-0.
If a team wants to test themselves they have to play those ahead and if they want better rankings beat those ranked higher.
I've read some reports where it is being said that the win in Japan is the biggest since 1936 for Brit hockey.
Enjoy the ride savour the challenge ahead.
Latvia has some of the best fans in the world. Saw them on Halifax in 2008 they party hardy but always friendly.
France is an up and comer. They've managed to stay in the top IIHF division for a few years. Kazakhstan is the Jekyll and Hyde team.Year to year you're never sure what you'll get.
Push hard their maybe some cherries to be picked.
Canada's rwo Mother countries (GB and France) head to head.....former Moncton Wildcats coach and 2006 Q -League President Cup winner Ted Nolan head coach of Latvia.
Lot's of local angles for me in Fevrier

I'm surprised my post came off as optimistic lmao 1 NHL player on another team is more than GB has every single year
Like you said it's best case scenario but anything after the pre-qualifier is just a "Happy to be there" situation. Sounds like every Canadian athlete at the Summer Olympics

Hey don't be diss'n our summer athletes. They did convince somebody to fund them.to wear t-shirts and shorts whilst running around on grass. Sometimes Canadians can even remember their names for 2 weeks. Still think 3/4 of summer olympic sports are made up and nobody really plays them

I always get frustrated listening to our athletes after we lose. It was nice at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver when we had the Ricky Bobby attitude, "If you're not first, you're last." (Also known as "Own the Podium")

I could post the video of our last WC of soccer qualifier. We thought we had a chance a W would put us through to the last stage.
Then Honduras hands us our arses 8-1
Stick to ice and snow
Okay I give this back to the Brits
I think we'll beat Kazakhstan, lose in OT/SO to France and lose to Latvia.
Blimey that's very optimistic.
I'd say to grab one point off anyone in the group will be a success, to push teams and to make their win very difficult.
But tbh the best outcome will come off the ice, maybe we'll see Eurosport televising the group stages, hopefully some sort of break could come in, see the sport get more mentions in the press etc.
And with playing in two groupstages, it gives some good prep going into the WC's at the end of the season.
