2000 was a little before I could follow the Devils from a day-to-day basis from the West Coast. When we got Quint for Odelein, was he expected to be the 3rd pairing D next to Malakhov? Or was White expected to be the guy from the start.

Will probably have to look it up later, but Quint was the guy that showed up to practice hungover and basically was kicked off the team?

God damn it, I miss Dean McAmmond. He was one of my favorite bottom sixer's we've ever had.

I'm pretty sure the only reason we drafted him was because Marty was an impending UFA and there was a legitimate chance we needed a goalie for the future. So we drafted Ahonen. When Marty re-signed, there was no chance Ahonen would get any games. And since he wanted the chance to be a starter, we decided let him go. It wasn't so much about talent.
Yeah that's pretty much it. When Marty was re signed in 02 it all but killed his chances of ever playing here. When Marty was re signed in 06 it totally killed his chances. They would dress Clemmy, and Damphousse as backups in the NHL cause that's all they'd ever be was career backups. They kept Ahonen in Albany to get the ice time.

It's kinda like how we drafted both Marty, and Dunham in 1990. Marty won out, and Dunham was still expendable. Even though they took his UFA case to arbitration. Once Marty was re signed in the late 90s it seemed they finally let Dunham go after trying so hard to hang on to him.

How about Steve Kelly? Think he may have been traded for Bob Corkum. Not sure, but it was around that time.

Peters, and Boulton are no more obscure than Foster, since they were hated by many.

How about Pikkawhatever? If it weren't for his name he would be a lot more obscure.

Was Danton Cole on the '95 Cup team? He's probably the most obscure Devils Cup winner.

Jarrod Skalde was supposed to have some potential....obviously didn't.

I was a big Poddubny fan for some reason too.

I tried to ignore all the guys that only played a game or two and never panned out.

It's tough to beat the already mentioned Steve Brule. At the time he got his name on the cup for playing no regular season NHL games and 1 playoff game.

He got 2 regular season games with Colorado about 3 years later, which is kind of sad, ruins him as being on the Stanley Cup with never playing a regular season game...actually at that point having only played 1 meaningful game for the NHL.

lol I didn't realize Brule played so little in the NHL. He was in our organization long enough though, with six or seven years in Albany.

I remember one time about 5 of out top 6 was injured at the same time, and we had to use Danton, Jefferson, Dagenais, and Bicek. Pretty sure we sucked, and slumped too.
I thought you were joking when you said that.

Steve Brule or Steve Kelly. I don't remember which one it was, but one of them has 3 career games played, 2 of which with the Avalanche, 1 of which in a playoff game with us.

His name is on the 2000 Cup.

As for more recently, how about Rob Davison or Patrick Davis?

Murphy, and Davis. They were both in 09/10 weren't they?

Also Dean Mcammond was mentioned earlier. I'm not sure I would call him obscure, and I wouldn't call Rob Niedermayer obscure for us either really.

Mcammond, and R Niedermayer were our best players down the stretch in 09/10 for a while when we were slumping. Not that it says much cause I think Rod Pelley might have made top 5 during those days!

I liked Mcammond, and Niedermayer. Some of the Only guys that gave a damn some of those putrid games.

Mike Jefferson is his birth name, but he had it changed to Mike Danton after becoming estranged from his family.

He had a bunch of issues, he was [ALLEGEDLY] sexually abused and manipulated by his junior coach/agent David Frost when he was a teenager, like for YEARS, and was eventually arrested for trying to put a hit out on on the guy. Apparently Frost encouraged him to become estranged from his family, which led to him legally changing his last name. Frost has had several allegations against him of sex with underage kids he was coaching in the late 90's.

But you're right, he was suspended by the Devils, a few times actually.

Quote:
In two successive seasons, Danton was suspended by the Devils. He sat out the entire 2001-02 campaign, refusing an assignment to the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League, insisting he was suffering from an abdominal injury. Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello disputed Danton’s medical claim and that led to Danton uttering his now infamous remark about refusing to, "Drink any more of Lou’s Kool-Aid."

Back in the club’s good graces at the start of last season, Danton made his NHL debut, playing 17 games for the Devils and scoring his first two big-league goals. First-year New Jersey coach Pat Burns liked what he saw from the grinding, pesky Danton. "He fears absolutely nothing and that is something I can't teach," Burns said.

"He brings an edge."

Assigned to minor-league Albany in December 2002 after he griped about his lack of playing time, Danton again balked and was suspended. A month later, Danton served the Devils with legal papers, seeking to gain his release from the club. While the Devils won the Stanley Cup last spring, Danton sat at home, his hockey future once more in limbo.

During the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Danton was dealt to St. Louis for a third-round draft pick.

You remember goals scored in humdrum December games in 2006 but you don't remember the Jefferdanton soap opera?

Haha more like I remember goals from 92, but not that!

That is sad about what happened to him with the sexual abuse.
