Easier transition to the pro game, gets to play with the Oilers 3 best young players and get some chemistry, and dominate and gain a ton of confidence at the pro level before he steps in with the Oilers.
I didn't think Schultz could keep up this pace after the first couple of weeks. But here we are almost 20 games into the season, and he just keeps producing points like a madman. This kid is unreal.. I was so happy the day he signed with the Oilers, but now I'm even happier having him here. So many people were thinking he was overhyped and wishing the worst for him, but he's silenced all of his critics. The chemistry he is developing with Eberle, Hall, RNH, and even Marincin down in OKC right now is gonna go a long way in helping him make the next step into the NHL.
Greatest defenseman ever! I just heard the Norris will be renamed the Justin Schultz Memorial trophy.
Honestly though the points he is putting up is ridiculous, especially with the talent in that lineup he is making them look like nobody's.
Doubt he can keep this pace... He's shooting at 18.5% which is ridiculous if your name is Stamkos (who is also a forward, duh)...
Also, if nhlnumbers.com is right about equivalencies being 0.55, he's on a pts/gp rate that would equal 70pts in the NHL, given a full 82 games played... if you think that's the true Schultz.... oootaaayy...
The over/underrated HF pendulum for Schultz is swinging toward overrated again. It went from underrated when he was on the Ducks, to overrated when he was contemplating leaving, to underrated when he chose the Oilers, finally starting to get correctly rated right now (soon to be overrated).
only 4 defensemen in the entire NHL put up that many points last year and you think Schultz is gonna do it as a rookie?
this guys starting to become pretty overrated
I mean he's had a great 18 games in the AHL but all of a sudden people are acting like he's the next Bobby Orr
First, it was a Nucks fan making the prediction. Do you think they'd willingly make a favourable projection for a rival player unless they thought that player was capable?
Second, if the lockout lasts all year (which seems all too likely), we won't be talking about your average rookie (from an experience perspective). He will be 23 and have 3 college and 1 AHL season under his belt. Some of his peers from that draft year have put up big numbers from the back end - Doughty recording 59 points at age 20, Karlsson with a monster season last year. Why does a 52 pt season incite "overrated" comments?
Third, he will get premium PP minutes on a PP that was already 3rd best in the league while being quarterbacked by an 18 year old RNH. You don't think there's a chance they actually develop individually, as well as gaining chemistry together, and are even more lethal when the NHL fires back up?
The kid is on pace for a 100pt season in the AHL as a Dman, in a year where the lockout has increased the level of competition down there. I don't think 52 pts as a rook in the show is anywhere near as far fetched as you make it sound.

maybe
I saw a Canucks fan say RNH was currently a top 5 Center in the league and the best prospect to enter the NHL since Malkin on here last year

like I said, only 4 d-men hit that many points last year in the entire NHL
there's only been 3 d-men that have hit 50 points as rookies since 1985-86
and one of those was Lidstrom
age is one thing but NHL experience is very important too for putting up a monster year
people are reading way too much into a mere 18 AHL games and expecting way too much out of this guy way too soon
WTF MAN. I just finished a f***in essay on Christine de Pizan's explaination of arms and chivalry and spent 2 hours rereading the thing to cite the stuff I forgot to mention, Come to hfboards to relax my mind and this is the first post I see, LOL.
Schultz is proper though, I want to see his game in the NHL.

I like how he recognizes where Eberle is going and moves into the passing lane so quickly. A great display of high hockey IQ. And then he finishes with that sweet wrister.
It is crazy what he's doing in the AHL so far this season. 18 games in and he's a third of the way to the AHL D goal record.

Why? Are Detroit fans the only one's who can get excited and over-rate their prospects?
50pts is a high bar but its not entirely unreasonable when you look at the entirety of the situation. And that guy isnt even an Oiler fan. Quite the opposite in fact.
